Customer Reviews:
THIS BOOK IS A WINNER.......2007-08-06
WHEN I STARTED TO READ IT THE STORY LINE KEPT MY INTEREST AND IT WAS HARD TO PUT IT DOWN .
Depressing and Farfetched.......2007-05-25
I just finished the Series "Sun-Coast Chronicles" and actually the whole series is depressing but Presumption of Guilt is the worse. Violence against children is just difficult to read on any level but in this book it has gone on for years in the Children's Home. I have read a lot of Terri Blackstock books and so far do see a lot of violence ofset by how God can care and change people but this one just was difficult to read. By the middle of the book and on to the end I found myself skimming it just to get to the end. The series of events got a point of ridiculous. A newspaper office is burned (by children, Beth's home is bombed (again the bomb is sent by a child,a little dog is killed, children are beaten and terroized, the adults border on stupid (Jimmy in the care of Lynda and Jake takes off in the night to rescue his sister, then Beth in the care of the same people leaves in the night, the mother leaves the hospital barely able to walk and they all end up at the children's home) Okay we have a cop watching the home who sees none of this. Everyone is running around without getting anything accomplished. Then the police allow Bill to take Beth as a hostage and board a plane. I don't think so! Besides being unbelievable in places, as I said it is just depressing. I give it 3 stars for the parts that God is brought into the scenario and the characters have to rely on their faith in him to get them through all that is gong on. Also for the wrap up of Jake and Lynda's romance and adopting 2 of the children. I agree with another reviewer who said you need a happy book after reading this series. I pulled out a Lori Copeland Book to read! Whew! I can smile again! I would still read books by Teri Blackstock (in fact I have the Cape Refuge series I'm starting soon and hoping for a little less violence)but I just did not enjoy this series with the exception of the first book of the series where Lynda and Jake are introduced. I read reviews of people who really enjoyed the series but it was just too "dark" for my tastes in reading. I realize it was a mystery and thriller but it got annoying to me that the police and other adults in the book couldn't get things together. It was just so muddled!
Too depressing of a series!.......2006-01-30
I don't mind crying at a series - in fact most of the time that means I'm really enjoying it, but oh, my goodness...will the depression never end! This entire series is so depressing...it just kept getting more depressing! Don't read this without a "happy" book to make you feel better afterwards. Defintely not her best series.
Perfect ending to the series!.......2005-09-10
Presumption of Guilt was a perfect ending to this series by Terri Blackstock. It really showed the damage we humans do to each other and also the redeeming power of God's love. I couldn't put it down! You will love this book as I'm sure you loved the ones before it. It neatly ties all the story lines together and gives you and ending worth waiting for. Enjoy!
If you haven't read a Terri Blackstock novel..........2005-08-03
If you haven't yet read any of the consistently-superb novels by Terri Blackstock... try this one or any other of her books, and you'll likely want to read them all! Her suspenseful plots aren't surpassed by anyone I'm familiar with...not even Mary Higgins Clark, great as she is!

4 in one.......2007-04-05
I had read the first book from this set at the library. I was looking to purchase them all and this book came through. All of the stories are great. They have a good plot, with a good amount of suspense. I like how Blackstock uses the 'stars' of all 4 books in the set to help each other within the series. If you enjoy other suspense {mystery} novels I highly recommend this read.

Anything by Terri Blackstock is worth the time invested in reading. Love her books and actually bought this one as a gift for my granddaughter, who enjoyed it and is now reading another of Terri's books.
Move over Mary Higgins Clark!.......2003-01-21
A Christian version of suspense queen Mary Higgins Clark? Terri Blackstock's skill at writing suspense fiction reminded me much of the mystery queen. "Evidence of Mercy" (available as a separate novel, or as one of four best-selling Blackstock novels in the "Suncoast Chronicles" anthology) is a humdinger of a suspense story, revolving around the lives of three main characters. The main protagonist, Lynda, is a Christian lawyer whose life is threatened by an unknown killer. The second central character is the atheist Jake, who becomes a paraplegic after crashing on Lynda's sabotaged plane while test-flying it as a prospective buyer. The third main character is one of Lynda's clients, Paige, a single parent trying to avoid her abusive ex-husband. Suspense mounts as the mystery killer and his motive remain unidentified in the first half of the story.
The first story in this collection, "Evidence of Mercy", is a terrific and captivating story that draws you in, and at the same time gives you much to think about, because the characters not only battle a mysterious killer, but also their own personalities and weaknesses. Much Christian fiction falls into the trap of featuring an artificial conversion story. Terri Blackstock shows that writers can craft a mouth-watering Christian story without artificially sprinkling it with an obvious theological twist of this kind, and yet retain a deeper spiritual significance. In the afterword, Blackstock explains that the idea of her book came after a personal struggle with her faith, and the growing awareness that faith needs to be put into action. "I thought I believed, I said I believed - but I did nothing to put the belief into action. I was neither hot nor cold, but luke-warm, and absolutely fruitless." The title "Evidence of Mercy" describes this important spiritual theme that Blackstock wants to convey. The struggles of the three characters mirror Blackstock's own struggles, as she explains: "the characters interested me because their own spiritual battles were so much like my own: Lynda, a lukewarm Christian who would let someone die without witnessing to him; Jake, an agnostic who couldn't give up the pilot's seat in his life until it was taken from him; and Paige, a spiritual infant on the verge of belief, who lacked the faith to make the final plunge." For instance, Lynda comes to conclude "she'd made a god of an airplane, an altar of her job, and an idol of her ego" (p.38), and Jake realizes the folly of relying on his good looks: "If I'd known I was going to be left with just my character, I'd have worked harder at building some." (p.135) Without taking on an preaching tone that many Christian writers unwittingly do, Blackstock brings out these important spiritual truths by showing them in the lives of her characters in a convincing and persuasive manner. The other three stories in this anthology are equally good. In fact, I find them to be on a higher level than Dee Henderson's popular books.
Terri Blackstock's novels are a welcome addition to the ranks of Christian fiction. The genre has been dominated especially by the historical romance, much of it inferior to secular fictions on most levels. With her successful efforts in suspense fiction genre, Terri Blackstock shows that it doesn't have to be that way (aside from an unnecessary kiss in the last pages), and that Christian writers can successfully take on new genres, and do so with style. As a fan of suspense fiction, I'm grateful to see Christian writers provide exciting alternatives to secular novels in the genre. Move over Mary Higgins Clark!
Fantastic series at a fantastic price!.......2001-06-14
I read the Sun Coast Chronicles series almost a year ago and can't say enough about Terri Blackstock's ability to weave suspense, mystery, romance and inspiration in such an entertaining package.
In the Sun Coast Chronicles, there are four stories with interrelated characters in the same town in California. Each hero/heroine is forced to deal with something outside themselves, usually a bad character and at the same time, something inside themselves, their faith in God.
Terri Blackstock is one of the premier Christian writers, and I highly recommend this series. And to get all four of them together in such a great price, it makes me wish I hadn't read them yet!
Great Mystery and Suspense.......2001-03-08
I finished this book in two days, I was so caught up in it. It is much better than the Newpointe 911 I started with. I would encourage anyone who likes suspense and mystery to read it. Although I have figured out the killer rather quickly it still kept my interest.

Title character needs work.......2002-03-02
The first Lelia Kelly book I read was Officer Of The Court. If I had started with Presumption of Guilt I may not have continued with the Laura Chastain series. The character Laura Chastain, in my opinion, just isn't a likable person. I liked her even less in False Witness. She improves a lot in Officer of the Court.
In Presumption of Guilt and False Witness I got tired of Chastain deciding her scenario is always the correct one and trying to force everyone to prove she's right. Come on, Tom would still be alive if it wasn't for Laura. It's as though Lelia Kelly can't decide if she wants Laura to be a wimp or a great heroine.
If you're bored and need something to read, the Laura Chastain series is OK. If you've just gotten back from the book store with several good books, put Lelia Kelly's book on the bottom of the stack.
copping out.......2001-03-05
deceptively alluring title piggybacking turow classic. pedestrian prose, pacing and sentiment. the central question is who snuffed a child molester while in police custody. interesting interspersing of talk radio excerpts about the case. not particularly legal or thrilling, a prosaic whodunit.
Atlanta Police on the Spot.......2001-01-23
The two things that make Presumption of Guilt fun to read are its setting-contemporary Atlanta-and the wonderful skill with which Lelia Kelly describes both the city, his history, and its residents. The plot is solid, a classic lawyer-crime drama, but Kelly's rich narrative asides make this book more than it might be otherwise. The protagonist is Laura Chastain, a lawyer with an old-line Atlanta corporate firm. A senior associate, she is on a fast track to become a partner. The only problem is that she has developed a taste for criminal law, and the partners of her firm tend to think that is too vulgar. That opinion, however, does not stop the partners from calling on her when one of the firm's corporate clients needs a criminal lawyer. The story starts with the end of the trial where she successfully defended the neer-do-well son of one of the firm's biggest clients against an assault charge. She is soon approached by a vice squad cop who expects to be charged in the death of a prisoner. He insists he is innocent, but if he is, then there is some skulduggery going on down at police headquarters. As Laura investigates she becomes more and more convinced that something strange is going on. She also becomes more and more involved with the dashing young bachelor partner who is her supervisor in the firm. There are interesting twists and turns before Kelly leads us to an interesting and suspenseful conclusion. Maybe it's having spent twenty-five years in Atlanta that makes me think that Kelly's descriptions of the city are so rich. Example: "...it's growth had occurred late enough to allow planners to benefit from the lessors on older cities, but they hadn't. Atlanta, Laura believed, actually aspired to be Los Angeles." And:" Atlanta...had become the embodiment of the Old South for much of the world-all because it had been burned, first by Sherman, then by Hollywood. It was the second, fictional burning that had done the most damage." Whether you lived in Atlanta or not, you should enjoy Presumption of Guilt.
A Good Exciting Read.......2001-01-01
I just finished reading Lelia Kelly's Presumption of Guilt. It's a good exciting read with suspense that carry's throught to the end. A neat twist of events unfolds in the final chapters. The characters are alive and believable. This book is worth picking up, particularly at the bargain price here at Amazon.
Enjoyable holiday reading.......2000-12-24
The first novel by Lelia Kelly is not an earth shaking renewal or a highly literary thriller novel. However... she does provide you with a very well written and exciting few hours of escape.
Lawyer Laura Chastain is certainly someone I could enjoy in a couple of sequels. She is a modern heroine that simply tries to live her life as good as she can and is not too bothered with all the psychological problems some of our current lady protagonists seem to need these days ( Scarpetta e.g.).
Instead we have a fast rolling storyline and a good plot lived out be real and, mostly likeable characters.
Only one recommendation...simply enjoy

Book Description
In 1975, at the age of 19, the author Ronald Grafton, was diagnosed in the early stages of schizophrenia and psychosis. Rather than capitulate to the diagnosis, he chose to go into religions armed with science and logic to seek the solution to his mental anguish by understanding the workings of his mental ‘parts.’ Having succeeded, this is the first time that a schizophrenic/manic-depressive person has described their reality scientifically and logically. As such, this book reflects true Gnosticism in that by knowing the real Self through the sentience of experience, he has been able to unlock many mysteries of the Mind by bringing together Quantum Physics, Biology, and Religion! His main finding is that of seven basic Emotions, the Creativity/Sadness emotion is behind schizophrenia and manic-depression, which are very treatable once one understands the workings and effects of neurotransmitters upon our emotions, which will give hope and relief to millions of people.

More than your average crime book........2004-08-22
A boy is found with bloody underwear. His babysitter, a male high school senior is immediately suspected of molestation. The little boy is very bright but is certainly very vague about what happened to him. Psychologists are brought in, with their own agendas. The prosecutors, parents, judge and the victim all have their own agendas. The reader is left to try to guess what really happened.
The point of view is usually that of the little boy who is trying to navigate his way through the adult court system while keeping his secrets secret, his famlily intact and do what is right, as far as he can tell. I really can't go into much more detail without spoiling the plot.
This is Brown's first book. He is a state supreme court justice from Ohio and I hope that this disturbing piece of fiction was not based on a true case. This book was well-written, compelling and, like I've already said, disturbing.
NEVER MAKE PRESUMPTIONS.......2001-11-05
Charles King is living a nightmare. Gifted, verbal and extremely articulate, the 7-year-old has been guarding a secret. The secret comes out when Charles' mother, also bright and articulate and extremely driven finds a pair of blood stained briefs that belong to Charles. This discovery is tantamount to removing the lid from a Pandora's box. Horrors abound. Who caused Charles to bleed? Why would anyone harm an innocent child?
The list of suspects is quite long, from a neurotic, gay sitter who insists on bathing all of his young male charges; possibly an adult guest or even one of Charles' father's legal colleagues. But who? Charles isn't talking. His sister, Vivian, a musical prodigy retreats into her music and Charles is left to try to sort out what has taken place.
His life takes a drastic down turn. His contentious parents separate; he has to endure a painful physical examination and contend with a questionable psychiatrist with an agenda of her own. The high point of his trauma takes place in court. The questions that crop up there are not really resolved. Did Charles identify who really injured him? Who did it?
The story closes ten years later. Charles, then in college picks up the ruins of his boyhood. He has moved out of state and keeps his contacts with his parents and older sister to a minimum. He tries to avoid people he knew as a boy. It is just a question of time before he has to confront his inner demons and unmask the REAL culprit.

Customer Reviews:
Red Talons can be so loved after this book!!!.......2007-05-31
I had always seen Red Talons as the bullies of the werewolves. Never thought they had that much to them, and I had figured out they were simple minded.
And then I met Storm Eye. And I really thought she had a story to tell. Her character and her story are so great that I wanted to know more about her. The mistakes she do, how she learn from them, and the goo things that come her way and are earned by her... Astonishing, really!
And the Fianna book... well, what can I say? I'm really into Fiannas, and just to see how one of them just come and saves the day is great!
Red Talons Exposed.......2002-01-05
Red Talons is the best section of the six parts White Wolf has published so far. It delves into the inner workings of the most misunderstood tribe in the Garou Nation. Storm Eye deals with the loss of her full wolf kin and the consternation of being forced onto an airplane by fellow werewolves. The best part of this novel is the formation of the pack and the bonding of a pack to its totem spirit. Fianna is less interesting, but it puts a new twist into the overall plot of the novels with the pure arrogance of the Silver Fangs.

Book Description
From the bestselling authors of The Baby Book and The Birth Book comes The Discipline Book, the definitive guide to raising happy, well-adjusted, well-behaved children. Seasoned parents of eight, Bill and Martha Sears draw on personal experience and their professional knowledge as childcare experts to provide an authoritative approach to a broad range of disciplinary issues and practices. With focus on preventing behavior problems as well as managing them when they arise, the Searses offer clear, practical advice on everything parents need to know about disciplining young children. Believing that discipline starts at birth, the Searses discuss baby discipline, disciplining the toddler, mother-father roles in modern parenting, saying no, self-esteem as the foundation of good behavior, helping a child to express feelings, the constructive use of anger, good nutrition for good behavior, and sleep discipline. On handling problem behavior, the Searses cover sibling rivalry, spanking and alternatives to spanking, breaking annoying habits, and eliminating bothersome behaviors like whining and talking back. The Searses strongly advocate teaching children values like apologizing and sharing, and explain how to deal with such issues as lying, stealing, and cheating. In addition, the Searses address building healthy sexuality and discipline in special situations such as after divorce and in the single-parent household.
Customer Reviews:
great.......2007-09-10
I agree with about 95% of Dr Sears advice. I have learned so very much and so far have had an easy time implementing effective discipline on my son. Easy to read - one of the best books I've read on disciplining your child.
IMPORTANT READING!.......2007-08-28
As a pediatrician, I thought this book gave good information for parents on the subject of discipline. An important book to have.AVOIDING THE 15 BIGGEST MISTAKES PARENTS MAKE: A PEDIATRICIAN'S PERSPECTIVE.
good info.......2007-08-02
I would love to give a long explanation on this book but I think I would bore you. To sum it up it is a good resource to own and read. But, there is always an but, if you want to save money just but Sears's Baby book. It is everything in one book. Anaother great resaource is his Fussy baby book. This is a must. The discipline book is basically a chapter out of his Baby book.
What every you decide Sears is a excellent resource and more people should adopt his parenting advice. If they did there would be a lot more nicer people in this world as a whole.
Different kind of discipline book.......2007-08-02
Because Dr. Sears focuses on having a relationship with your child, not just a quick and easy remedy for misbehavior, this is a different kind of discipline book. Every child is different. Every family is different. Having one set of "rules" for every family is unrealistic and will not work for everyone. This book teaches you how to listen to your childs needs and wants...which again will be different from the neighbor's child's needs and wants and create a nurturing enviornment for them. As a working mother, attachment parenting principles were incorporated into our lifestyle because of the many benefits of the techniques. We had to tweek them a bit, but we made them work. As a result, we have a child whose "healthy detachments" and "appropriate behavior" amazes our friends and family. He's not perfect, but he is healthy; physically, mentally, and emotionally thanks to Dr. Sears and his family.
Insightful parenting.......2007-05-31
I love this book. Dr. Sears is not soft on discipline at all, but explains a discipline philosophy that keeps parents in charge and kids happy.

Customer Reviews:
Just adding my voice to the chorus of praise..........2006-11-17
for Mr. Cowdery's bourbon book. A very accessible introduction to the topic but filled with information that will educate the aficionado as well. Extremely well-written and researched. Simply a pleasure to read. I only hope that a sequel is forthcoming that will collect more of his outstanding reviews of bourbons currently on the market. You just can't do any better if you want to learn about America's native spirit.

Going to Church.......2004-11-21
If you want to see advertising for bourbons, this isn't the book for you. But if you want the story of the bourbon industry, then this is like going to church. You'll get the plain and simple message from the author. This book is now part of my liquor library as the new starting point for my knowledge of bourbon. Enjoyed it, five stars.
Aged in the wood........2004-11-13
It isn't hard to tell when a book is written from piles of research material strung together in a daunting mass. It is equally evident when an entire field of study, wed in the wood, is melded through a lifetime of experience, aged into a narrative that flows so naturally, it issues from the very core of the author. The latter is the case here. From a complex history of chemistry and business decisions is distilled a work that is both complete and readable. Mr. Cowdrey is on his turf here, and it shows. Observations in "Bourbon, Straight" are certain, forceful and backed up not just by facts - but by thoughtful deduction only years can (but do not always) provide. That said, the book is no polemic. The wit and dryly humorous wisdom are winning. When describing one particular whisky, Cowdrey murmers "They possess that ineffable (and much overrated) quality known as smoothness." Highly recommended.
The Best.......2004-10-05
This book is a joy to read as it meanders through the history of bourbon and the many characters that have created that history to the technical aspects of creating a fine bourbon. It also includes many helpful tips on how to enjoy and taste bourbon. This is the book to have for those interested in the subject of the true American Spirit.
