Book Description
When Skye Denison's brother forms a band called Pink Elephant, the town goes wild-maybe too wild. First, a groupie turns stalker, seducing the band members one by one. I love this series and look foward to more of them in the future.
These are enjoyable books and easy reads.

This is a good book. It is what it is, light and enjoyable reading.
So-So Sleuthing.......2005-12-28
This book, the first in this series that I've read, was okay. The plot was paper-thin, and there wasn't enough tension to keep me turning the pages. However, Swanson's writing is smooth.
Swanson's characters need more development to make them compelling, and I felt that she treated them as naive country bumpkins. Just because someone lives in a small town doesn't make them ignorant or unsophisticated.
Not a winner, but definitely in the running.
Would You Trust Your Children With This Woman.......2005-07-07
Skye Denison, school psychologist thought she had trouble with her job, but she actually had it easy compared to her brother Vince.
Normally a hairdresser, Vince and his band, formerly known as the Plastic Santa's have renamed themselves as the Pink Elephants and are playing at the Valentine Dance at the high school. That is if he and his band can stop beating each other up.
Things get really hot when a fire breaks out at the high school and Logan Wolf, lead singer winds up dead.
Skye is determined not to get involved in the investigation, but when Sheriff Wally seems to have Vince in his sights again as the murder suspect, Skye decides she has to act.
Could Logan's murder have anything to do with the rumors of drugs in the school? Or maybe it had something to do with Logan refusing to sell Moss Green his farmland so Moss could put up Pig In A Poke - his amusement park.
Wally isn't too pleased with her investigations, he's running for mayor and he's hassled at every press conference about the fact that he can't solve a crime and has to rely on a citizen to do the investigating.
Even after several attempts on her life, Skye continues her search until she comes face to face with the murderer.
Highlights:
Skye's family. Her parents and godfather Charlie and brother Vince are very close and obviously adore Skye.
Sheriff Wally. I've like him since the first book, he doesn't mind Skye investigating usually, but doesn't like the fact that she takes unnecessary risks.
Justin And Frannie, two somewhat geeky high school students who work on the school paper and do a lot of undercover investigation. They come across a lot of clues that they then pass on to Skey.
May's cement goose that she dresses up on her front lawn.
Lowlights:
Skye - I'm beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with this woman. She surprised at her brother censure of Logan sleeping with a groupie, after all Vince has quite a reputation. Skye obvioiusly doesn't think there is a difference between the single Vince being with someone and the married Logan being with someone.
Skye gets into trouble several times when she should have given some information to Wally, he didn't answer her phone calls and when she went to the station she realized his ex-wife Darleen was intercepting the messages, so next time when she really needs to tell him something and he doesn't call her back, does she go to his house and tell him? Of course not, she'll do it in the morning, afterall what could happen before then? Justin and Frannie show more intelligence in their investigating than she does.
Bunny - the mother of Simon (Skye's boring boyfriend). Fortunately, she is only in a few pages of the book. I cannot stand this character, Skye finds her refreshing after having to put up with her overbearing mother. I suppose she would have liked it if her mother ran out on her and her father, came back several times and ran off again, the last time twenty years ago when she not only ran off but took all the money out of her husband's savings account. That's the kind of mother Bunny was to Simon.
As I said in my earlier review of this series. Skye picked the wrong boyfriend. Simon, local funeral parlor owner and coroner is ok, but there are absolutely no sparks between Skye and him.
Skye seems so flaky at times that I would wonder about her abilities at her job in helping troubled kids.
This is a strange series where I find that everyone but the heroine, her boyfriend and his mother are so wonderful you want to continue reading about them. The mystery itself is very good. A lot of clues but no cheating on the ending, although I suspected who the killer was but wasn't confirmed until the end.
It's not too late to dump Simon and his mother.
Skye defends her brother.......2005-01-13
Skye Denison is a school psychologist who has returned to her small hometown in Illinois. Her brother Vince plays with a rock band called Pink Elephant which performs at a school dance where Skye works. It's obvious that some of the band members are not getting along and when one of them is killed in a mysterious fire, the police chief begins to suspect Vince. Skye begins an investigation to find the true killer and she uncovers a lot of unsavory situations in Scumble River. First of all, the teenagers begin to act in an unreasonable manner which makes Skye suspect they are on drugs. Secondly, a developer has come to town and he is trying to buy up people's land in order to build an amusement park. Skye's friend Wally, the chief of police is acting in a strange manner and seems to be trying to elude his ex-wife Darleen who is pursuing him in an aggressive manner. Author Swanson manages to keep all of these subplots going and then neatly ties them together at the end. The characters in this series are developing nicely and it looks as if Skye's love life will continue to be a hot topic in future books.

Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Merlin is trapped in a crazy version of Wonderland, which is actually, of course, just a Shadow. Some complex sorcerous shenanigans by various members of his family, ensue, as well as contact with Fiona, and stunts similar to Brand's, in the first series.
Cast Of Thousands.......2005-05-24
Sign of Chaos is the critical moment when the story line (of which this is the eighth) blurs out for a while. It's not a bad book by any means, but Merlin's story is one of an ever-increasing number of people who want to either kill him or run his life for him. This book is that critical mass when there are so many characters to keep track of that small minds like this reviewer's tend to shut down.
Fittingly enough, the book starts out with Merlin and Luke trapped in the Mad Hatter's Tea Party Bar, where the previous volume left them off. A psychedelic Mickey has turned Luke into a hallucination machine and it takes both ingenuity and chemistry for Merlin to take his leave. He makes it back to Amber only to discover that he has a new, and beautiful aunt. Who just as promptly disappears, leaving Merlin once again in the clutches of an old friend.
Along the way Merlin picks up Mandor, his older brother on the Chaos side, and Jasra, who is now a 'friendly' enemy instead of a coat rack. This is about where characters and plot get so intricate that you may wish you had been keeping score from the beginning. Zelazny is merciless, captivating his readers at the same time he is confusing them.
By way of personal history, I took a several year break from the series at this point, picking up the last two volumes when the appeared in paperback. You may feel like doing the same thing, but there are only two more quick volumes to go and you will be a member of the I Love Amber club, a very exclusive group of folks.
Chaos is an apt title.......2000-09-22
This book, like many in series SF, can not be read independently of the rest in the series. Its main fault is that it is frequently chaotic and can be difficult to follow, especially if it has been awhile since you read the previous stories. The protagonist, Merlin, continues his sparring with Luke, Jasra, and the Mask, and his girlfriend, Julia is back in the story, unknown to Merlin at first. Merlin's brother, Jurt, also is involved, along with multiple other extended family members.
Zelazny fans will like this, but the Amber premise is noticably tiring in this story.

Horrible excuse for Christian living.......2005-08-02
Now we know why the Baptists will be in heaven first...
The "dead" in Christ shall rise FIRST.
(I saw that on someone else's review and just had to use it)
Just because miracles, signs and wonders have ceased (or never existed in the first place) in John MacArthur's church, doesn't mean that they ceased for the rest of us. God is still confirming His Word with signs following! I've seen hundreds of miracles and healings.. and I've heard testimonies of people being raised from the dead after being dead for over 6 hours!
If you have questions about your beliefs you must read this.......2003-03-09
I am so thankful that John MacArthur wrote this book. I was caught up in so many of the lies that the Charismatic, Word of Faith and Pentecostal churches taught me. This book helped me to see how the scriptures have been twisted. Most of the things I had learned were Traditions of MEN and not the Truth. If you have any bit of doubt whether you are being taught the Truth of the Gospel......read this book. It is filled with so much scriptural, historical evidence that it is hard to ignore.Be a berean and study your bible. We are warned of the deception of these teachers.....don't wait.... He's coming soon.
Dr. McCarthur has a very solid foundation for his response.......1999-08-12
Dr. John McCarthur has written a book that may not please everyone, especially some from a charismatic or Pentecostal background. However, there is one thing that cannot be denied. If you disagree with him, you better come equipped with plenty of biblical, cultural, and historical evidence for you case. This book addresses error and excess in an area many are afraid to touch. In a day where everyone is afraid to speak truth, Dr. John McCarthur provides an insightful and penetrating look into the biblical validity of much of the modern charismatic movement.
unfair and unlike Christ.......1999-05-05
Do not read this book. If you are a non-christian, you will be surprised at the hate that exists among professing christians. i am *not* a charismatic, but i was saddened by this book. Read this book instead "Surprised by the power of the Spirit" by Jack Deere.

Whether you're 23 or 63 now is the time to start eating the SuperFoods way. By incorporating these foods into you regular diet you can actually change the course of your biochemistry and stop the incremental changes in your body that lead to diseases such as type II diabetes, hypertension, certain cancers, obesity, and Alzheimer's.
So what are the SuperFoods? Don't worry. You won't have to subsist on sprouts and shots of wheatgrass juice. The fourteen foods are beans, blueberries, broccoli, oats, oranges, pumpkin, salmon, soy, spinach, tea, tomatoes, turkey, walnuts and yogurt. Not exactly a broccoli fan? No problem. Each food comes with a list of "sidekicks" that provide similar benefits. Have cabbage, turnips, or bok choy instead.

A solid, general rubric for proper eating.......2007-09-26
SuperFoods is a great leap in the right direction for anyone looking to improve his or her diet.
Positives: the format and suggestions are some of the best in the diet class. It's easy to follow, the suggestions are not too expensive, and the book includes a great deal of scientific explanations and references.
Negatives: the author suggests consuming beans, oats, soy, and dairy. These foods are generally beneficial for one's health, however after reading The Paleo Diet: Lose Weight and Get Healthy by Eating the Food You Were Designed to Eat by Dr. Cordain, I learned that human bodies are not properly engineered to consume such foods.
Conclusion: this book is a tremendous foundational guide to proper nutrition. For those who want to take it to the next level, I would recommend The Paleo Diet instead.
Saved my life!.......2007-09-16
My doctor recently diagnosed me with diabetes in addition to my longstanding problem of high cholesterol and high triglycerides, which was also affecting my liver. I was quite overweight but didn't really care until that point - there's always tomorrow to lose it, right? He put me on a cholesterol and triglyceride lowering medicine and told me I needed to lose weight. This time I took him seriously, and I also read SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle. I started exercising (walking) and eating healthy by following these two books' recommendations. So far I've lost 31 pounds without feeling deprived or going on some weird diet. I feel great, my diabetes is well controlled, and my cholesterol, triglycerides and liver function are in terrific shape now. The Super Foods have found a permanent place in my diet, and exercise a permanent place in my lifestyle. Thanks to these two books I believe I've saved my life and will enjoy better health over the long term. I've sent them to my brother to help him make the changes he needs for the same reasons. I highly recommend SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle!
An Eye Opener.......2007-09-04
I've been a vegetarian for 21 years and thought that I followed a balanced diet... well, this book opened my eyes. I loved it because it explains how each of the superfoods contributes to your health, the recipes are very easy to make and since I started putting it in practice, I feel a lot better and more energized :-) Great purchase !
Excellent book to promote healthy food choices.......2007-08-23
This is an excellent book to help learn more about making beneficial food choices as part of a healthy lifestyle. It is not a fad diet or gimmick to lose weight fast. In addition to the 14 suggested "Super Foods," the author identifies "sidekicks" for each, which offer similar benefits. The author also provides recipes, offering guidance on how to prepare these foods using healthy cooking choices, too. (I've already tried a few and they're fabulous!) Finally, throughout the entire book the author supports his information with research-based evidence, with references, from peer-reviewed journals.
Although the focus is not on losing weight, when you take the advice of the author and begin to eat all of the foods necessary for a long, healthy life, you have little room left to eat the garbage that keeps on the extra pounds!
This is not just a book I recommend to friends and family - this is one I've already purchased several copies of for friends and family!
Healthy eating.......2007-08-15
This is a super book for people wanting to make good food choicies. What set this book apart is that the various foods listed are accompanied by what diseases and conditions they help to prevent or combat. And, suprisingly, none of the foods are exotic foods!
A surprise benefit of has turned out to be weight loss. I am assuming it is from the low glycemic index.
Book Description
Martha’s Vineyard has long claimed a spot in the public imagination as a playground for presidents and celebrities, but also as a place where life can be simple and pure. This ideal of simplicity is exemplified by its fresh, local produce and fish just off the boat, prepared with minimal fuss. In this evocative cookbook, Tina Miller, who grew up on the Vineyard as the daughter of one of the founders of the Black Dog restaurant and who became a chef in her own right, presents the food that has made her the beloved chef/owner of two Vineyard restaurants. Organized seasonally, the recipes range from classic preparations of local fish such as Grilled Swordfish with Green Aioli or Grilled Bluefish with Lemons and Parsley Mayo to dinner party fare such as Lobster Pie with Sweet Peas, Leeks, Tarragon, and White Wine or Crispy Slow-Cooked Duck with Beach Plum Glaze. Local fresh produce grown on organic farms and sold at the farmer's market and farm stands around the island are showcased, too: Zucchini and Tomato Casserole with an Asiago Crust, Grilled Vegetable Gazpacho, Corn and Shiitake Timbale with Baby Greens, as well as Huckleberry Crostada, Roasted September Peaches with Walnut Crust and Sweet Cream, and Apple Brandy Cake.
Throughout, the magnificent photos of Alison Shaw depict the island—with its incomparable beaches, beguiling and diverse towns, and breathtaking scenery—and all those who still practice traditional ways of raising and gathering food. Fishermen still harvest swordfish and tuna using fishing lines rather than nets, prized bay scallops are still collected in freezing weather, and lambs are still raised on an eighteenth-century sheep farm in Chilmark.
For anyone who has never been to the Vineyard, here is a chance to experience this island paradise. And for everyone who knows and loves the Vineyard, this cookbook will be a year-round reminder of delicious memories.

Island Food, Classical Martha's Vineyard.......2006-02-16
Vineyard Harvest:
A Year of Good Food on
Martha's Vineyard
By Tina Miller with Christie Mathewson
Photography by Alison Shaw
This cookbook concentrates on the simple and pure. This simplicity is evidenced by uncomplicated, relatively short recipes. The book is a seasonal sequence of tempting dishes prepared from the bounty springing from the seas and soils of Massachusetts' Martha's Vineyard. Between many of the recipes are profiles of some of the caring citizens of the island.
