There's a deliberate lack of excessive angst and glamour in Peter Robinson's books about Inspector Alan Banks and his fellow Yorkshire coppers, so first-time readers might think them bland. But under the books' placid surfaces, whole worlds of crime and justice are being worked out. In this ninth book in his increasingly popular series, Robinson gives Banks some serious problems of a personal and professional nature: a neglected wife and a ruthlessly ambitious superior. He also drops Banks into a frighteningly realistic neo-Nazi group called the Albion League, whose activities include drug dealing and murder. Other books in the series available in paperback include Innocent Graves, Final Account, Gallow's View, and Hanging Valley.
Book Description
Hatred and murder breed in dark places ...
In the long shadows of an alley a young man is murdered, savagely kicked and beaten to death by assailant or assailants unknown. It is a crime shocking in its raw brutality, and its shattering repercussions will be felt throughout a small provincial community on the edge -- because the victim was far from innocent, a youth whose sordid secret life was a tangle of terrifying contradictions and virulent racial hatred. And now a dedicated policeman beset by his own tormenting demons must follow the leads into the rankest pits of man's inhumanity to man -- to catch a killer before his village explodes.

Good Book But Petered Out at the End.......2007-07-02
Peter Robinson always writes a fine novel: good pacing, well-developed characters, a plot which moves steadily and capably toward its denouement. And this one is no exception although the ending was, in my estimation, disappointing. But up until that point, Robinson lays out for us a feast -- or at least a nice lunch. He takes his characters, especially Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks, through no small amount of emotional travail, which gives the book added poignancy. But the ending was weak in that ...well, you'll just have to see. I've read all Robinson's Banks books and this is a good one, just not one of his best.
A very fine mystery.......2006-02-28
It started slow but eventually picked up speed. DCI Alan Banks and DC Susan Gray are mired what seems to be a racially motivated murder. The brutally beaten victim is a member of a neo-Nazi group and three Pakistanis had an altercation with the victim in the local pub before he died. As Banks and Gray explore the neo-Nazi group in Eastvale and Leeds, their social lives take divergent paths. While Banks and his wife are growing apart, ultimately leading to separation, Susan Gray is starting to date again. With his love of classical music and devotion to work, Banks is a ubiquitous, amiable character.
Banks Number Nine: Worthwhile.......2005-03-25
A young man is beaten to death in an alleyway at night. The plot thickens when his identity is discovered: Jason Fox, a leading light of the Albion League, a thoroughly unpleasant extreme right racist fringe group. As DCI Banks and DC Susan Gay piece the details of Fox's nasty story together, their lives complicate in other ways. Susan is embarking on a relationship with Gavin, a colleague from regional HQ. Meanwhile the state of Banks' marriage is going from bad to worse as is his relationship with his boss Chief Constable Jimmy Riddle. This book, whose British title is `Dead Right', didn't seem to me to be quite as good as its predecessor `Innocent Graves' but is nonetheless another pretty strong and worthwhile procedural from Robinson.
Same As.......2003-08-19
I have just read the 8 trial pages of "Blood at the Root" by Peter Robinson and word for word it is the same as "Dead Right" by Peter Robinson - have you made a mistake, or do I have the wrong cover on my book?
Note change of title from UK edition.......2002-03-18
For those hunting for all Peter Robinson books, you should note that "Blood at the Root" was originally published in the UK as "Dead Right". Don't go ordering both....

Back Again.......2003-02-10
It is now 2003 and the last time I wrote a review for this book was in 1998. I first read this book in my 8th grade year and I am now a Senior getting ready to graduate. About a week ago I ordered this book ... I've checked all libraries close to me, and books stores in many cities. The fact that I'm still dying to read this book over and over again shows how great it is. I've been reading since I can remember and I always good taste. This is an excellent book and everyone should take the chance to read it. Happy Reading.
Best book out there..........2002-04-15
RTC's book "Blood Roots" was the best book I've ever read in my life so far. I read it over and over again after I read it the first time. I had checked it out through my school library many times because I liked the feelings I got from the book. That was the first book of her's that I had read and I fell in love with it. I read it for the first time four years ago and I still remember the feelings I felt from reading it. Since then, I hadn't seen it anywhere but here...so I bought it!
One of the best -and most unusual-books I've ever read!.......2002-03-13
I loved this book. It has so many wonderful layers of suspense, romance, and history. The character of Olivia is one of my favorites in RTC's books. The end is a shocker, but I loved it!
.........different..............................2002-01-22
ew...... did it have to have so much .......detail..except for all those parts(those of you who have read it, know wht i;m talking about) the book was pretty ok. It wasn't as good as most of RTC's books though.
Blood Roots.......2001-12-27
I have read Blood Roots several times since it originally came out and even had it autographed by RTC. I admit it is different from her usual writing, but you have to remember it is written on an adult level. I couldn't put it down the first time I read it, and I still can't even though I know what happens. An Awesome book by a wonderful lady.
Book Description
"Allah has bought from the Umma-the true believers of Islam-their selves and their substance in return for Paradise; they fight in the way of Allah, killing and being killed. Their promise is written in the blood of the moon." -From the Koran, chap. 9, v. 112
The conflict between Islam and the West existed long before the destruction of the World Trade Center and the other events that recently touched America. It goes back hundreds, even thousands, of years. Yet the struggle is upon us now as never before. In this well-reasoned, accessible book, Middle East expert George Grant answers the troubling questions on many believers' minds. Who are the followers of Islam, and what do they believe? What could have motivated those who carried out the acts of terror on September 11? Why has there been tension between Islam and the West for centuries? What are the true meanings of terms such as Ji'had, Intifada, and Dhimma? And is there any hope for peace? The call upon believers now-as always-is to prepare and equip ourselves so that we may stand fast. The Blood of the Moon will help readers better understand the history of Islam and its struggle with the Western world, as well as how Christians can share the message of salvation through Jesus Christ with the followers of Allah.
Customer Reviews:
Useful study but not detailed enough for a reference book........2003-01-20
Presenting a background to the roots of the Middle East conflict with any degree of clarity and brevity is no mean achievement. Yet in some 130 pages that is exactly what the author has to some extent achieved here.
The book covers the age-old conflict between Arab and Jew, tracing it's origins back to the time of Abraham and his sons Isaac & Ishmael.
From there the author devotes a chapter to each significant period of history in the region, whilst presenting an overview of the current dilemmas facing the region at the time of writing in 1991, which are remarkably similar to those still faced today.
Sections of the book are also devoted to the region's great empires of antiquity including those of Egypt, Assyria, Persia and Babylon. The Crusades are also covered, plus the more recent historical involvement of the British, French & Russians following the First World War and the break-up of the Ottoman Empire and the mapping of the `modern' Middle East.
Drawing on references to the Bible, the Quran and Biblical prophecy, the writer tries to make some sense out of the current conflict between Israel and the Palestinians and what the region's future holds for us all.
The author examines how World opinion has turned against Israel through the Palestinian `intifada', whilst other similar & larger `intifadas' have been downplayed or ignored by the World's media and the International Community.
He makes reference to the `intifadas' of the Kurds in Iraq, the Shiites in Tajukskaya, the Albanian Muslims in Kosovo, the Druze in Lebanon, the Azaria in Azarbidjan, the Sunni in Kashmir, the Armenians in Turkey, the Dinka in Sudan and the Copts in Egypt. The writer queries why the `Palestinians' are always in the news and yet the others are hardly ever mentioned.
The writer declares his goals of trying to understand the `perilous present' and the `frightening future' by shedding some light on the `ponderous past'. His attempts to do this are commendable, although not error free.
Especially in relationship to his use and understanding of the historic term `Palestine'. The term `Palestine' only originating in AD135 when the Romans changed the name of the Jewish nation to `Syria Palaestina' which eventually become anglicised into `Palestine'. The name of Jerusalem also being changed at the same time by the Romans to `Aelia Capitolina'. The author's brevity in relation to the British Mandate also results in the omission of some essential data.
Having said that, this is a useful book for those beginning their studies in the Middle East conflict, but there are better books out there. "Philistine; The Great Deception" by Ramon Bennett is highly recommended and Hal Lindsey has also recently released another useful study entitled "The Everlasting Hatred; The Roots Of Jihad".
"The blood of the moon!".......2002-06-09
'The blood of the moon'ýthe author purports to have taken this title from a verse of the Qurýan, which, according to him, is the 112th verse of the 9th chapter. In fact, this phrase does not occur anywhere in the Qurýan. The first part of George Grantýs misquotation resembles the 111th verse of the 9th chapter. The actual translation of this verse is: ýVerily, Allah has bought from the believers their lives and their properties for (the price) that theirs shall be the Paradise. They fight in Allahýs Cause, and slay and are slain. It is a promise which is binding on Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? Rejoice then in the bargain which you have concluded, for that is the supreme success.ý
The next verse continues: ý(The believers whose lives Allah has purchased are) those who turn repentant (to Allah), those who serve (Him), those who praise (Him), those who fast, those who bow down, those who fall prostrate (in worship), those who enjoin the right and who forbid the wrong and those who keep the limits (ordained) of Allah - And give glad tidings to believers!ý
These are rather flagrant inaccuracies; especially unforgivable since the Qurýan in Arabic and its English translation are freely available on thousands of websites, for example [website]. Can the rest of Grant's book be trusted for accurate information? For a 5 minute introduction to Islam try [website]
a good beginning for understanding our world today.......2002-03-31
This is an excellent book to aid in an understanding of the threat of terrorism and the ongoing crisis in the middle East. George Grant compares the Christian worldview as opposed to the Muslim beliefs. Where the divergence came from and where it seems to be leading us. Very readable and interesting book. One you will want to share with many friends.
Great source for answers.......2002-03-29
Perhaps you were like I was on September the 11th, gaping in awe at the destructiveness of the beliefs that propogate terrorism and carnage. What are the beliefs behind such atrocities?
And then there was and is the ensuing battle over the whole concept behind the religion of Islam. What, historically, has this concept been, and what is it today?
In concise, easy to read terms, starting with the ancient past and exploring the history of Eastern/Western tension, George Grant explains the source of the conflict. Going directly to the Koran, and utilizing his deep knowledge of the history, he gives answers to the questions we have been asking since September 11. A great book for people like me--laypeople searching for reasons and answers.
A great primer for understanding the present conflict.......2001-12-15
Since September 11th, have you found yourself asking, "Why did this happen?" "How could somebody do this?" "What or who is behind this madness?" "What can be done to stop the terrorism?" The Blood of the Moon is a great book for anyone wanting to better understand the historical dynamics behind the war with terrorism which has involved our entire world. Written in a straightforward, easy-reading, common sense style, you do not need to be a college professor to enjoy this book and gain a lot of information in a short amount of pages - although even academics will find the book to provide a wealth of information, which is well-documented and footnoted (the footnotes, by the way, are referenced at the end of the book, rather than page-by-page, which makes it very easy to read). If you want to gain a decent grasp on what is behind horrible events of today and had to choose one book to buy for a student, a friend, or yourself, this is one for sure.

Book Description
Trapping was becoming a dying trade and not many could make it in such a harsh life. But Joshua Walker had worked these mountains and streams most of his adult life and preferred it, to what was becoming the new progressive way of living.
With winter coming on soon he knew the much-feared Arikara Indians would be making way to their wintering camps so he skirted their country in search of a place to set his traps and settle in for the winter himself. Just as he had begun his travels, he encountered something that bewildered him and upon closer inspection he bore witness to a grizzly scene that would alter his destiny forever.

Normally I don't have patience to read novels. I ordered Bitter Root Blood because the cover looked interesting but as soon as I read the first page...I was hooked! This book reads like a well written movie...the characters and surroundings come alive and surround you...this is probably one of the most creative works I've ever read.

Good story, bad structure.......2005-11-27
I'm really sorry to have to give this such a low rating, because the story concept is indeed wonderful. Having found six glaring grammatical errors on the first page alone, I nevertheless struggled through the many more to come. It was a really painful read for me. Not just the grammar, but the structure and flow were just not there. This book could use an extensive workout with a good editor.
Exciting adventure.......2003-10-22
Who would have thought a computer geek would end up being a hero. A great story about an underdog who is the man of the hour. I love English legends with the famous sword excalibur. Cann't get enough of it. Enough romance (...)to keep one interested in the story. Worth the money!

Julie Fast and John Preston have written a ground breaking book for couples who want to prevent manic depressive disorder from hijacking their relationship. Fast, a health writer diagnosed with bipolar illness and clinical psychologist Preston are ideal companions. Their innovative ideas will be welcomed by exhausted partners of "bipolar individuals"--whose illness can cause them to alternate between manic and depressed behavior. Once medication has been prescribed, the key is studying the specific ways your partner is effected. This allows couples to develop pro-active strategies for treating and stabilizing mood swings and symptoms, before they develop into full-blown crises. The techniques emphasize prevention, rather than putting out fires. These include understanding the difference between the person and the disease (know when "the bipolar disorder is talking") listing your partner's specific symptoms, identifying the triggers that lead to these symptoms and transforming the "bipolar conversation" The goal of all the tools is to pinpoint early warning signs of a manic or depressive episode and be prepared with a holistic treatment plan. Other segments of the book deal with the work (checkered resumes) and financial problems (spending sprees) created by this illness. The author's ideas are engaging, compassionate and realistic--an oasis of relief and hope. --Barbara Mackoff
Book Description
When a person loves someone with bipolar disorder, life can be very stressful. From medication troubles to a partner's mood swings the demands on a partner can be intense. Loving Someone with Bipolar Disorder takes a unique and practical approach to these issues.
Written by an author who has bipolar disorder (and who lived with a partner who also has bipolar disorder) and a coauthor with over ten books on the topic of mental illness, the book offers specific, practical and realistic tips on how a couple can work together as a team to create a treatment plan that teaches them to live with the illness while still maintaining a loving and joyful relationship. (Though this book is written for couples, friends and family members can use the techniques in the book as well.)
Loving Someone with Bipolar Disorder provides hope and encourages couples to work together to create a plan they can use to help stabilize bipolar disorder so that their relationship can focus on love and companionship instead of the illness. Chapters include ideas on how to create a comprehensive treatment plan that incorporates medications and supplements, diet, exercise and behavior and lifestyle changes into one practical approach to this very serious illness. The partner of a person with bipolar disorder learns about communicating with their partner when they're ill, getting real about the situation and how to take on other roles in healing besides caretaking. Other specific topics include work and money, emotions, sexual issues and much more. The goal of the book is to help couples create a relationship that is based on support and prevention instead of constant crisis control.

Loving Someone With Bipolar Disorder.......2007-08-23
I found this book to provide direct information about Bi-polar disorder. The writers don't hold anything back. Bi-polar disorder is very destructive and can devastate a family. I feel the writer's offers practical help if one is committed to a relationship with someone that suffers from Bi-polar disorder.
Loving someone with bipolar disorder.......2007-08-15
I was very disappointed in this book. It did very little to make me feel hopeful about my relationship with someone who suffers from bipolar. It places all the responsibility of avoiding triggers on the healthy spouse. The person with bipolar has no responsibility in monitoring behaviors, medications, physical, or emotional health. It sends a very unhealthy message. I believe that ultimately it is up to the person with bipolar to manage the disease with the help of a well-informed doctor, loving and understanding family members, and loyal, supportive friends.
Something lacking.......2007-07-21
I was very excited for this book, I was really seeking out an all-encompasing book on the topic for my loved ones. After reading this book, not one of my loved ones will ever see this book, unless of course they seek it out and purchase it themselves. I think this book casts people with Bipolar in a very negative light. Instead of being useful and instilling hope, I found it to be depressing and very limiting. I feel you should give your loved ones a really good idea of what it means to be bipolar, but it should be cast in a positive light, not a negative one.
Superb Book.......2007-07-20
Everyone in a relationship with someone who suffers from bipolar disorder will benefit from reading this book. Period.
Going a long way to understanding bipolar.......2007-07-15
I found this book an extremely useful tool/insight into the world of bipolar. The practical tips given can go along way into eliminating some of the chaos that bipolar can create within the sufferer and those who love them. While nothing is a cure all, these helpful hints can create dialogue between the people involved and a deeper understanding. It is written in a gentle and constructive way for carers who may find it difficult to crawl into the mind of the person they love and understand that certain behaviours are not coming from a rational space. As it is often hard to know what practical things to do with an irrational disorder "Loving Someone With Bipolare Disorder" is an excellent place to start and gives hope for brighter more in control future. The book is useful also for the bipolar sufferer to understand what the disorder can do to those they love and the importance of taking their "triggers", "symptoms" and "what works" for them seriously. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone needing to understand bipolar better.

Book Description
The creator of Tapestry details how to use this new framework's components to create rich web-based GUIs using links, images, and HTML forms. The challenges of web application development are discussed, such as managing server-side state properly, application localization, and maintaining synchronization between the client web browser and the application server. At the same time, the benefits of a clean separation between presentation logic and business logic and how well Tapestry succeeds in keeping these two concerns apart are identified. Written for new Tapestry users and even developers new to creating web applications in general, this guide includes extensive notes on development "gotchas," including common Tapestry errors and how to fix them. Advanced techniques are covered as well, including creating entirely new components, integration with traditional servlet and JSP applications, and creation of client-side JavaScript. Finally, a complete J2EE application, the Virtual Library, is presented and analyzed in detail.
Customer Reviews:
Hopelessly outdated.......2007-05-19
This books is just no longer relevant. Even when it was relevant (back in 2004), it was not a good way to start learning Tapestry. I would have preferred more barebones examples, rather than jumbling a bunch of stuff into a kitchen-sink "workbench".
There is no Manning book for Tapestry 4.x, which for a long while was the way to go. "Enjoying Web Development with Tapestry" is a good book, which is like set of heavy duty tutorials with mini-evolutions of the project during the chapter. It happens to mimic the way I learn things.
Now, Tapestry 5 is on the horizon, and it looks really good so far. Hopefully someone will release a book for entry-level Tapestry adopters, especially since Tapestry 5 is radically different than/incompatible with version 3 or 4.
The Tapestry mailing list is the best replacement for this book. You may also want to search the net for a free book on Apache Maven, which is the preferred method of building applications that use developmental versions of Tapestry 5.
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK FOR TAPESTRY 4.......2006-08-25
The book seems to be well written and very fine IF AND ONLY IF you are using version 3 and have no plans to upgrade any time soon. If you are using version 4 or plan to any time soon, trying to follow along with this book will send you on a series of wild-goose chases trying to figure out why none of the examples work. Instead I recommend Kent Tong's book, which has been revised to reflect Tapestry 4.
All of the sample code and concepts are based on version 3, and I could not get a single example to work (e.g., the Authentication example relies on the Visit class, which is deprecated. The banner ad example relies on the AbstractService class, which is gone in version 4 - the upgrade guide says simply "that class has been removed so you will have significant rewrites." Not exactly helpful in the "how to" department.)
Very dense and clear .......2006-03-27
I am learning Tapestry to use it in a project. True the learning curve is high, but with this book you not only learned how to use Tapestry but also the why's and how's behind its design. Chapter 7 (under the hood) and 10 (Implementing a sample application) are particularly good. In all a very dense and clear book suitable for intermediate to advanced readers.
Lack details.......2006-03-23
this book is not well written. Tapestry is a new way of developing web applications and the author glance through way too many concepts that are essential to understand tapestry web development. For instance, OGNL is havily used by tapestry, but the author does not even bother to spend a little time explaining how it's been used by tapestry. I was left with a lot more questions on tapestry after reading this book. This book only serves as an introduction to tapestry and lacks full coverage. If you buy this book, you will have to spend a lot of time researching the net to find answers to basic question that (I think) should have been addressed by the book. Especially since the author is also the lead developer of Tapestry.
Also be aware that this book only covers Tapestry 3.0 and not 4.0
The fundamental book.......2005-12-11
This book describes Tapestry 3, while Tapestry 4 will be hopefully released soon, in some aspects quite different from it's predecessor. But still, I would recommend this book to everyone who is going to use Tapestry and who wants to understand the framework. Because Howard, being the creator of Tapestry, shows the main ideas and principles around which the framework was built, and the most important of them do not change with a next release. They only become more efficiently expressed.
Having said that, I should warn that this isn't the best book for the complete Tapestry beginners. In a number of cases the author tries to speak at a beginner's level, but he obviously knows too much :) and cares too much for this.
However, there is a number of Tapestry tutorials available in the Web, and having started with them, you will definitely want to read this book.

Customer Reviews:
engaging and entertaining -- and also smart!.......2007-10-07
Reading The Hound of Rowan was an utter treat. I kept finding myself transported to Rowan; it truly lives on these pages. The characters are created to be believable, and, with one exception, the character names are well-chosen and not silly or gimmicky. I also really appreciate that this book is literally well written - the grammar is gorgeous without being stuffy or dull (this is a true gift for an English teacher - I will enjoy using Hound as a tool for inspiring student writers). The comparisons to HP are inevitable, but I believe this series stands on its own, and I am so excited to read book 2!
Amazing Book.......2007-10-05
This book is phenominal! The writer is actually one of my teachers at my school (he's such a nice guy). The next book will be out in septemeber of 08. A little about the book: Its a great fantasy story to fill the void of Harry Potter (there aren't many similarities, dont worry). But it is truly well written and I really think you should give it a chance.
Fantastic Fantasy.......2007-10-04
Neff's novel captures the imagination from the get go. As I first delved in I thought, "oh no, this is a Harry Potter, clone". This notion was quickly dispelled. As I learned of Max McDaniels and his adventures I was enthralled. Early on Max realizes that he is a "Potential" and faces both exciting and scary adventures while dealing with the day to day of being a teen; such as the first crush and leaving home.
One instantly becomes caught up in Max's world. I found myself unable to put the book down until I knew both the fate of Max and his classmates. I am looking forward to the next installment. This is an excellent fanciful adventure. I highly recommend for anyone up for some magical adventures.
Fall's Must Read New Book.......2007-10-03
The fall assault of new books has begun, and this, The Tapestry is a Must-Read for all and should be placed at the top of your list. A sensational new series from first time author Henry H. Neff, who not only wrote it, but illustrated the book beautifully.
Twelve year old Max is not like most kids, he has special abilities. Power that is inside him that he doesn't know at first, Power that one day may save this world from darkness. Max must attend Rowan Academy, with some hesitation, to learn about his inner power and keep his father and himself from imminent danger.
Upon arriving to Rowan Academy Mr. Neff introduces us to a brilliant cast of characters that every reader will enjoy, connect with and care about. We also get some very creepy and scary villains like the Vye, who are shape shifters, but when they're in true forms are like giant werewolves. The Tapestry is a well packaged book with mystery, fantasy, mythology and adventure all within its pages. Its pace is swift and never dull, and you will find yourself wanting to read it in one sitting. I work with kids and three have read it so far and said "It Was Fantastic".
It's time to pack away Harry Potter and his broom into the cupboard and get ready for Mystic Max McDaniels.
Bravo to Mr. Neff for this first outing, and can't wait for the second installment.
Tough to put it down.......2007-10-03
This is an incredible read. The story of Max's journey blends mythology and art history into a wild ride that explores the relationships of father and son, teacher and student, compatriots, and ultimately heroes. The writing style instantly sweeps both you and Max into a world that is as believable as it is fantastical.
This is not for the faint of heart, as darkness is barely held at arms length and the struggle to overcome has just begun. It is, however, for both the young and old.
The stage for the second book in the series is set masterfully and one can't help but imagine the trilogy on the big screen.

Book Description
When Orion gave up his birthright to become a wandering warrior, he had no intention of swearing loyalty to another crown. Until meeting Princess Mystia of Nor, that is. He couldn't know that this woman would bring him face-to-face with the one thing he feared most- Himself.
But, while who he is battles with who he has become, the fate of the Three Realms hangs in the balance.
Joshua J Marsh's debut fantasy novel mixes compelling characters, intriguing plot and just the right amount of magic and mythical creatures to create a spellbinding tale.
And, she's still young.

Going on the "to keep and to share" shelf.......2002-03-03
However I might have been predicting this book would turn out, as I read further it became ever more interesting and unpredictable. The fantasy world is nicely outlined and the characters are sympathetic and complex. All of them. Yes, you meet the hero right away, but this is nothing like a "black hat/white hat" western; each character has a personality, a history, and a future unfolding from it. I really appreciated the awareness of the history and future of the storied world, while it certainly didn't cause any stinginess with action. And the conclusion... spiffy!
A promising first book.......2001-10-09
A classic high fantasy tale complete with maidens, dragons, and wizards. Characters have respectable emotional draw and are consistent/well developed. Theme has a Christian backdrop without painful moralistic implications...as usual more thematic details would give away half of the book. And don't worry....don't care about Christian themes?...still an enjoyable read (insert true love, battles, swordplay) Although consistent, the language is maddeningly riddled with prepositions (reminiscent of older, classic prose). A promising first book.
Tapestry of Power is an intricate Tapestry.......2001-10-02
"'And I tell thee this, this child shall not die, nor shall he be thrown from the Three Realms and branded as outcast. Nay, he shall be my son, and I shall be his father; it shall be my blood which doth course through his veins. He shall have his chance to grow great in the eyes of man and creature and to seek salvation from the curse which lieth so heavily upon him. Thou shalt not have his blood today.' Thus spake Lyght, Lord of the Realm of Magic." With these words, Joshua J marsh draws her readers into a world of magic where powerful dragons rule, griffins speak and humans and elves fight for freedom, justice and honor against the dark powers that seek to destroy them.
In Tapestry of Power, the town of Zaren, principle city of the kingdom of Nor, is invaded by Kozan, Power and King of neighboring Delovachia. Kozan has been thwarted in his attempt to marry the Princess of Nor, Mystia, and so wages war. The invasion is lead by Kozan's Dark Sorcerer whose powerful magic overcomes that possessed by King Ibrahim of Nor and the city falls. Ibrahim's son, Prince Gideone, is severely wounded by a magically poisoned arrow. With the help of his friends he escapes and they go in search of a cure for the poison and for help in their fight against Kozan. The Dark Sorcerer and fifteen of his magicians pursue Gideone.
Princess Mystia, along with the other women and children, fled before the battle. Someone besides Kozan pursues her and he seeks her life not marriage. Fortunately for Mystia, the mysterious and enigmatic Orion (whose past would not lead one to believe he cares about honor or duty) is fighting to protect her, to save Nor, and to be redeemed. If you like fantasy you will thoroughly enjoy this riveting, well-crafted tale of love and war peopled with elves, dragons, griffins, harpies and more.
