Internal Memorandum
For Your Eyes Only
The contents of the dossiers herein are top-secret government files. This information must be kept completely confidential to ensure not only the safety of the field agents who risk their lives daily but also the continued effectiveness of the agency.
Enclosed is a comprehensive collection of Agent Sydney Bristow's mission briefings, beginning with her time working as a double agent for SD-6 and the CIA. These files chronicle the downfall of SD-6, the rise of the Covenant, and the creation of Authorized Personnel Only, a secret branch of the CIA that's existence is at once sanctioned and denied by the federal government.
In addition to these briefings, the attached files contain profiles detailing each agent's personal history and psych evaluation, comprehensive analyses of the members of other U.S. intelligence agencies and enemies of the state, a combined SD-6/CIA ops tech report on the gadgets supplied for various missions, mission maps, and the official report on Renaissance prophet Milo Rambaldi, including a catalog of all collected artifacts and deciphered codes leading up to his apocalyptic prophecy.
Should these CIA files fall into the wrong hands, the results could be disastrous for the United States and its allies. Proceed with the utmost caution.

Disappointing.......2006-10-23
After Mark Cotta Vaz's adequate first volume, I was hoping for a follow-up from Ruditis that at least matched it and hopefully surpassed it. Sorry. Didn't happen.
This guide is kinda flashy but isn't constructed well. It's written as fiction, like you've been handed a dossier on Sydney Bristow and the gang and are having their missions explained to you. But all the energy spent on assigning made up file numbers and access codes comes across as taking focus off the show and sounds just plain corny. As usual with Ruditis books, there's little real-life info on the show. Do they not like this guy?
If you've collected the 'Alias' magazine, you've got a thousand times more info than you'll get from this. For the completist only.
A true Alias dream guide.......2006-01-28
It's been a long time since the Alias TV series went on air, but there hasn't been an official guide to complement with its popularity. And now finally, there is this book to satisfy our need for Alias(and give us "the story so far...")while we watch the current fifth season.
I got this book from a store, but initially I hesitated on buying it, since I'm reliant on book reviews and there isn't one as yet on Amazon right here. This official guide is written by Paul Ruditis, who wrote several tie-ins to Alias, Star Trek and Charmed, to name a few. He also co-wrote Angel: The Casefiles Vol.2 and Vol.3 of the Watcher's Guide. I bought Angel: The Casefiles Vol. 2 and I must say I was quite disappointed that Paul Ruditis' version was not as detailed and long as the previous Vol.1, which was written by another group of writers. So I was quite wary when I bought this guide, but it turns out Paul did a good job on this one.
Enough on the history already. Let's get on with the contents of this official guide. Inside, the Alias: Authorized Personnel Only guide is fully coloured with photos from the series. Contained in this book are:
(a) Agent Profiles
A fully detailed description of every single core member in the SD-6, CIA, the recently formed APO unit, civilian information and their current status.
(b) Milo Rambaldi
The history of this visionary architect from the past is detailed in this section, plus a full guide on the various devices he created and the items that revealed his prophecy on the Chosen One and the Passenger.
(c) Mission Archives
In this part of the guide are the detailed mission logs from Season 1 to 4. There are also major plot points that move the story and profiles found scattered throughout this section.
(d) Op Tech Manual
This section contains all the equipment and gadgets featured or mentioned (surveillance, computer processing equipment, stealth technology, lockpick/entry tools, tranquilizing agents, weapons, assorted items) throughout the series.
(e) Mission Key
A list of all episodes from Season 1 to 4, their original airdates and the mission log nos. that were featured in the episodes.
(f) Travel Log
A guide detailing the travel log of Agent Sydney Bristow on missions throughout the world, and the organisation she was doing the missions for.
Overall, I must say this has been a good official guide, if not more, and I'm satisfied with the way this guide was written. I highly reccommend this book to fans and ongoing viewers of Alias, plus first-time viewers who are interested and intrigued in this suspense and action drama series.

An outbreak of E. coli has thinned the detective ranks of the Chicago police department, so officer Suze Figueroa has been detached to temporary duty investigating a couple of bodies that turned up under the elevated train tracks. The location is a stone's throw from the precinct headquarters, and the killings are similar enough in modus operandi to make Suze wonder if there's a serial killer preying on the homeless. She's still working her regular caseload, which includes a pickpocket who's been targeting women shoppers at the luxury department stores on the Miracle Mile and a thief who robbed a currency exchange. And this is not to mention managing a few complications on the home front, including her sister Sheryl's agonizingly slow recovery from a serious accident and a dangerous pederast who's hiding in her attic. The plucky policewoman's personal and professional lives collide with violent and startling results in the penultimate pages of this somewhat unfocused crime thriller. Barbara D'Amato's pacing isn't as strong here as it's been in her previous outings (Good Cop, Bad Cop, Killer.app), and the murderer's identity is telegraphed well in advance of the denouement. What's more important, the reader never gets under Suze's skin enough to know what motivates her. But it's a good enough effort to keep D'Amato's hometown fans in Chicago happy until the next one comes along. --Jane Adams
Book Description
For Chicago cop Suze Figueroa, home is a sanctuary, a quiet refuge from the crime, corruption, and tragedy she encounters everyday on the job. The creaky old Victorian house she shares with her little boy, her invalid sister, and her sister's family seems far removed from the threats and dangers of the mean city streets... . . or so she believes. The truth is far more terrifying, for, unknown to Suze, a stranger has moved into the house: an intruder who waits in the attic by day and prowls her home at night, spying on both the unsuspecting adults and the defenseless children. While Suze spends her work day tracking down an elusive serial killer, she has no idea that a much more personal danger lives under her own roof, eating her food, handling her gun, and watching her loved ones......Strips of yellow tape may keep curious bystanders away from crimes scenes, but nothing so simple can protect Suze and her family from the menace that has invaded the privacy--and the safety--of their own home.
Customer Reviews:
Can a Police Procedural be cozy?.......2003-04-20
Chicago cop Suze Figueroa and her partner Norm Bennis exchange witty repartee in their squad car, but Figueroa longs to be a detective. Her chance arrives when the detective squad is felled by a bad dinner date. She and Bennis take on a serial killer while balancing their other cases and working within the confines of the city budget and their own time limitations.
Figueroa and Bennis are characters transported from a British cozy to the mean streets of Chicago, given some absolutely delightful dialogue and a fine-tuned sense of justice, and set loose to wreak havoc on the bad guys. She and Bennis come down to the wire in solving one crime, while another is taking place right in Figueroa's home.
D'Amato takes a solid plot, compelling characters, and an exciting location, and sprinkles in some terrifying antagonists to make "Authorized Personnel Only" a great read.
homeless invasion.......2001-01-23
it is easy to enter d'amato's world. her style is clear, her tone confident and her characters and setting are realistic. here, homelessness is the central theme. unfortunately, as in too many other works of contemporary fiction, the overly convenient psychopath rears his ugly head. even the author's afterword ends on a chilling note.
Great police procedural.......2000-12-10
Chicago police officer Suze Figueroa and her partner Norm Bennis know how ugly the city streets can become. The duo deals with crime, mostly petty in nature, on a daily basis. However, Suze and Norm soon find themselves involved in an even uglier scenario when much of the Second City's detective force call in sick with food poisoning following the retirement dinner of the chief detective.
Suze and Norm are temporally promoted to help work the crisis. The brass assigns them two nasty cases: a serial killer and a pediophile. The murderer uses the homeless as his prey while the molester relishes attacking pre-teen aged girls.
Even more now than when she patrolled, Suze sees her home as her castle of normalcy, a place for her to relax and regain her soul. Unbeknownst to the dedicated cop is that the pediophile has moved into her home living in her attic while learning more about his adversary with a plan to punish her for disturbing one of his felonies.
The subplots starring a serial killer and a pediophile sound trite as they have been overkilled over the past few years. However, in the hands of the award winning Barbara D'Amato both themes seem so fresh readers will believe AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY has introduced new concepts. The story line is a combination police procedural and thriller, but what makes it so good is the depth to the characters, especially Suze, whose professional and personal lives are opened up like a book for the reader to peruse and understand. Rarely do police novels attain that level of excellence as this tale does.
Harriet Klausner
Most thrilling police procedural novel ever!.......2000-12-01
Don't read this book when you're home alone at night. It's scary. AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY maintains suspense throughout, while being very realistic, in that the police officers are dealing with several cases as once, as real police do. The author skillfully moves between three different cases that come officer Suze Figueroa's way. The perpertator in one case has invaded Suze's own home, living in the attic of the big old wooden house, watching the family's every move from the back staircase and creeping out at night to steal food and torment Suze's paralyzed sister.
This book has every indication of becoming a smash motion picture. Remember, Eric told you so.
Meanwhile, why wait for the movie to come out? I loved the author's previous KILLER.APP. This new book is fabulous!
Procedural fans will enjoy this book.......2000-11-30
Barbara D'Amato's HELP ME PLEASE and KILLER.APP were two utterly un-put-downable suspense thrillers. AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY isn't nearly as exciting, but it's interesting as a "week in the life of a cop." Suze Figueroa and her partner Bennis are two patrol officers who are given the chance to become acting detectives when many of Chicago's finest are struck down by food poisoning following a banquet. They are faced with solving the murder of several homeless people, despite the fact that the department doesn't want to grant them resources due to the low status of the victims. At the same time, a child molester has moved into the attic of the home Suze shares with her sister's family, and is waiting for the right moment to attack Suze's young niece. Will Suze discover the intruder before it's too late?
I missed the heart-pounding suspense of D'Amato's previous Chicago cop books, but I did enjoy AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY as a police procedural. The author has obviously done a tremendous amount of research and I learned a lot. As a longtime fan, I must say that any D'Amato is worth reading -- she's a solid, reliably good crime writer.

comparatively disappointing.......2007-01-06
This third episode in the Brothers of the Dragon serial stands flashily out.
We find the same attention of the first two books for quick action scenes but the plot takes a much gloomier turn: here the main characters seem to be Katy, who struggles to bring her pregnancy to term in a hostile environment; Robert, who must finally face his self loathing and the havoc it wreaks on his life and the Heart of Darkness herself, with all her malice and hatred.
While many paragraphs seem to point out to the later distinguished author of "Shadowdance" here he/she still has not achieved enough maturity to handle such a thorough analysis of evil.
It is not easy to depict such a pure essence of evil avoiding commonplace: the Heart of Darkness is convincing at times but shallow at others; the depiction of the abuses Robert has suffered as a child are mingled with his guilt about being homosexual, which is understandable, but the author deals with them superficially, leaving too much in the dim, his love with Scott included.
This is why I think that this third book will disappoint most readers: in the first place the lovers of action packed novels who will have loved the first two volumes and who will probably not appreciate the grim turn of events but also the lovers of dark fantasy who will not find it deep enough.
Another source of disappointment will be the clumsy handling of the serial ending: there is space for a sequel, which is customary, but too many points are left unsettled: probably an attempt at realism which is unfortunately out of place in this genre.
Though homosexuality is -finally, this is the third book!- explicitly mentioned there is no graphic sex.

Not an extremly good book.......2003-01-14
For people who have seen the japanese version of dbz/gt they wont be very pleased with this book nice try but needs a lot more work.
A nice try, but much work is needed........2002-11-19
As a previous viewer stated, this really is nothing more than a glorified magazine.I've gone throuh it, cover-to-cover, and I'm wondering if these people have actually SEEN dragonball z. There are numerous problems with it. Errors, mispellings, innaccurate information.
Let's start with the errors. I'm convinced that the authors are little more than American DBZ viewers who have seen a Japanese episode once or twice. The information looks like it was copied directly from a website, complete with mispellings and all. The "biographies" are short, and rarely state anything meaningful or interesting ("Bra is the daughter of Vegeta and Bulma"). Yet another problem : Is it just me, or do poser magazines struggle to get real images? Numerous (100+) of the images in this book are terrible screenshots that are blurry, fuzzy, or grainy (Many so terrible you can hardly make out what it's a picture of).
The synopsis of Dragonball/Dragonball Z/Dragonball GT is not very good either. The author's have a rather snobby view of American fans and a high view of themselves who have, quote, "Seen the REAL version [of DBZ]". Pojo, get off of it. Not even the card game guide is good, with poor strategies and being very outdated. I'm not even gonna start on the pathetic 3-D images thing.
That said, I really do praise Pojo for trying. It's much better than anything Becket or some other magazine company has tried to put out. However, hopefully they will revise it, knowing that DBZ fans are one of the most difficult to please.
Here's the bottom line, for the type of people who would spend $9 on a magazine, I think they will be very pleased. Kids/Teens who are fans of the English version of Dragon Ball Z and are not picky about tiny details will be satisfied. I'm just warning those would consider this a valid source for information. In short, information accurate enough to satisfy those who don't know better, but not on par with some of the stuff that can be found on the internet.
I'm now know Every Thing About DragonBall Z!.......2002-10-16
I thought I knew a lot about DBZ before I bought this book, Boy was I wrong! This book has over 300 Biographies! I now know every one from Unreleased DBZ movies and Characters from DBGT! I knew who Majin Buu was before two years ago! My friends were jealous! Get this book! Make your friends green (like Piccolo!)With Envy! I paid the hefty price from a local book store. Buy it, you won't be disapointed! Oh Yeah there's a funny section about who would should do a DBZ live action movie, about wich Actors should play them!

Customer Reviews:
Worth Reading.......2007-09-13
I've enjoyed all of Dr. Weil's books and feel this is just as good. It's important to read and follow his suggestions to live a long and healthy life.
We're all going to die!!.......2007-03-08
I'm considered by others to be pretty up (and fairly fanatical) on health issues, though I do go for the occasional bag of chips. This book made me feel like a downright slacker! It also strikes me as being very, well, of the American culture of fear. Everything is terrible and going to kill you. The air you breathe, the chemicals on everything... you should bathe in filtered water?? Come on!
We all know it's not an ideal world, but this book will have anyone taking it too seriously in a real tizzy as you can't do a thing without causing yourself and those you love some grievous bodily harm.
It's interesting, but take it with a grain of salt. Oh wait-- NOT SALT!!
a great book .......2007-01-14
THis is a great book to do more education and raise awareness than to make you eat herbs.
Right On.......2006-10-24
Dr. Weil is right up there with Rayna Gangi on attempting to educate the public on taking charge of their health. I actually think the two books, Gangi's and Weil's should be purchased as one because as two it is a powerful set of instruction, experience and wisdom to help anyone who's interested in at least trying to take charge of their own health. Weil is less holistic than Gangi, as evidenced in the chapters on specific "remedies" for specific conditions, and Gangi is more spiritual in several chapters than Weil is. All in all, a great book for beginners or those advanced in understanding alternative health.
Great Reference on obtaining and maintaining good health.......2006-06-09
Dr. Weil has a rare outlook that you wish all health practitioners had. Specifically, he tries to take the best from traditional and natural medicine to help patients get and stay well instead of picking one of the two sides and calling the other side evil.
This book is a great reference for all kinds of questions you might have about health. Dr. Weil goes into detail on such basic yet crucial subjects as what you should eat and drink, how much exercise is enough, how to avoid cancer and heart disease to the extent possible, the role of dietary supplements, and even mental health. The majority of his answers to health questions will probably not be completely new to you, although I have never seen such a eclectic combination of viewpoints in one book before. What is particularly helpful is that Dr. Weil doesn't just tell you that you need to exercise, he tells you what goes on in your body if you do and if you don't. He doesn't just tell you to eat your vegetables, he points out that as infants we all loved vegetables and that it is probably the fact that vegetables become particularly unpalatable if served incorrectly that has trained us to dislike them. At the end of the book he has included some very delicious recipes to help you retrain your tastes.
Dr. Weil talks about various chronic diseases such as diabetes and has advice for diet, exercise, and supplementation in each case. I particularly liked his unique definition of depression as a state of high energy turned inward and negative. He states that you will never come to terms with your depression if you suppress it. He advises that you learn to own your depressions, appreciate them, and transform them, thus constructively using the energy they contain in the process.
I highly recommend this book to people of all ages who want common sense advice and recommendations involving achievable behavior on how to obtain good health.

Book Description
Vermont is the home of The Cooks Garden, America's premier organic seed catalogue. Since 1984, The Cook's Garden has been the ultimate source for kitchen gardeners seeking European-style greens, heirloom vegetables, radiant flowers, and pungent herbs. Each winter more than one million eager gardeners await the arrival of The Cook's Garden catalogue, looking forward to reading about new seed varieties as well as reliable classics.
Successfully growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers is just part of any gardening challenge, but what do you do once they are harvested?
Ellen Ogder's recipes are one of the most delightful aspects of The Cooks Garden catalogue. As Deborah Madison, bestselling author of Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone and Local Flavors writes in her foreword: "These recipes, which are entirely guided by the garden and choice of seeds that grow in it, bridge the gap between a dream on a page promised by a seed packet and how the seeds can be used in the kitchen."
Ellen's recipes are simple yet elegant and speak of freshness whether you harvest ingredients from your own garden or select them at your local store -- flavorful soups such as Zesty Lemon Cucumber Soup and Brilliant Butternut Bisque, salad combinations such as Arugula and Roasted Pear Salad, and Leaf Peeper's Carrot and Red Cabbage Salad, main courses such as Savory Vegetables in Polenta Crust or Herbed Chicken with Cider Sauce. Too many tomatoes or pears? Ellen offers ideas for preserving the bounty of any garden.
Illustrated with full-color woodcuts by Caldecott winner Mary Azarian and packed with topics from Ellen's favorite culinary herbs to favorite autumn vegetables, From The Cook's Garden offers a yearround garden of culinary delights.

My husband and I have been customers of the Cook's Garden seed catalog for over a decade. We might be an example of your worst nightmare, or wildest dream--we're foodies who became so fanatical about using only the best, freshest, in-season, organic ingredients that we now have a 10-acre organic farm where we do market gardening. We do all this so we can and do grow vegetables you see in this beautiful publication.
Other than its high production values, what is so special about this book? It presents an extraodinarily wide variety of produce as delectable dinner-time treats. For me, it gives depth to my already broad repertoire of veggie dishes. As an added bonus, I can give this cookbook to our friends and family who are reluctant to try cardoons or don't know that beets and chard come in a rainbow of colors. Suddenly, it's OK to give them strange veggies, because they know what to do with them. For those of you who don't know the joy of strolling through your own kitchen garden to decide what's for dinner, you can now stroll with confidence through the trendiest green grocer or farmers market, pick up what ever is freshest, and in season, and head home knowing you can find a delightful way to prepare and enjoy your find.
We've tried several of the recipes. They're yummy! All are inspiring.
And if you decide to try growing your own, remember there are those who farm many acres that started with a single grow box for fresh salad greens on the deck of their townhouse.
This makes eating your vegetables a joy!
foody heaven.......2003-10-09
As a foody who lives part of the year in Central London with all great restaurants and who also lives in the Dordogne with all its great produce, I have really enjoyed reading and cooking from this book. It's imaginative, easy to use, beautifully illustrated and inspiring. It is quintessentially American, and I will be introducing it and the recipes to all my friends in Europe.
