Book Description
This definitive survey examines the impact of nuclear weaponry on national security issues. Written by an experienced author and founder of the Peace and Common Security Institute in Berkeley, California, this text describes how current nuclear dilemmas have developed out of past choices and events. The final chapter of this chronologically organized text covers events that took place from 1985-1991, making the material relevant to the post-Cold War era.

A Really Fascinating Read.......2007-02-03
Peter Tremayne is the fiction pseudonym of a well-known authority on the ancient Celts, who has utilised his knowledge of the Brehon law system and 7th-Century Irish society to create a new concept in detective fiction.
The Sister Fidelma novels are taking on almost cult proportions and are becoming ever more popular with each offering from the author, whose obvious knowledge of the times and subjects he writes about shines out like a beacon on the shore.
Fidelma and her friend and companion, the Saxon, Brother Eadulf are on a journey to visit the new Archbishop of Canterbury, when their ship is blown off course and they have to land on the coastline of the Welsh kingdom of Dyfed. They are given the hospitality due to them by Gwlyddien and Abbot Tryffin of the Dewi Sant Abbey and once their identities are established are asked if they could help to solve a mystery.
The entire monastic community of the Abbey, including the King's eldest son have literally vanished into thin air. Fidelma and Eadulf are soon faced with one of the baffling puzzles they have ever had to deal with.
Didn't Read.......2006-11-03
I gave this book a rating of 5 stars, but I didn't read it.. how can I possibly rate a book that I didn't read? I bought it as a gift for my daughter-in-law.Unless I give a rating, you don't accept my review.
Nice solid mystery........2005-07-20
This is the 11th book in this "mystery of ancient Ireland" series featuring Sister Fidelma. As with the previous ones, it's full of interesting 7th century historical details, this time including Wales.
There are two mysteries that overlap, though perhaps not the way you'd expect: everyone in a monastery has disappeared without a trace, along with the livestock and some of the valuables; and a young woman is murdered.
Fidelma and Eadulf have been tasked by the Welsh king with solving the first mystery but have been given strict instructions by the local authority not to interfere in the second.
While the historical details are fascinating, at times they get in the way of the story. There are also 4 characters whose names begin with the letter I, which tends to make things confusing--a pet peeve of mine. Still, the mystery is well thought out, and there are some good twists, as well as a little personal development in the protagonists' lives.
Interesting story, clumsy writer.......2005-07-15
Peter Tremayne is the worst writer I read and Smoke in the Wind is as dreadfully bad as any of his books. I read his books because the advanced social structure of 7th century Ireland is so compelling, but at the end of each book I swear I will never read another one. He has absolutely no talent as a writer beyond some intriguing plots. He writes at about the level of Young Adult fiction, but at the very low end of that category. Some of his sentences are so clumsy they should be entered into a bad writing contest. He telegraphs almost every plot development and his dialogue is as stiff and unnatural as any I have ever read. If he has developed a strong following, as is indicated by some notes in the preface of "Smoke in the Wind", then I beg his publisher to find either a superb editor for Tremayne, or better yet, a ghostwriter.
where is the culture.......2005-07-08
what i enjoy tremendously about the sister fidelma series is the exploration of the people and culture of ireland. this entry in the series falls woefully short. yes, i know it is set in wales, but all the cultural/societal interactions are missing. this was a mystery set in a 2 dimensional world. i expect better from sister fidelma.

Worst Book EVER.......2005-03-09
Basically the H sleeps with h - doesn't marry her because she dares to have sex with him before marriage (hypocrite) and then meets her cousin and marries her cause she's a virgin - while telling her he's going to marry her virginal cousin he sleeps with h one last time - she gets pregnant - five years later he comes back to her because of course all the time he loved her while married to her cousin and wants his son.. UGH!! - I want to get every copy of this book and burn it! I mean he tells her she's not good enough - marries her cousin - leaves her to bring up a child on her own, all the while she torments herself.. I mean come on - could you love this guy?
Hero is a bit dim.......2004-03-21
This story is packed with passion. Venetia, the heroine's, relationship with the hero, Ryan, is steamy, emotive and highly charged. You read it with a kind of fascination as the hero gives an excellent demonstration of how to screw up his own and the heroine's life. The book could be read as an example of what should happen in traditional romances where the red-blooded hero gets the sort of wife he professes to want; virginal, lacey feminine type who will look after his every need and who has him as her sole reason for being, living her life vicariously through his. If he IS a true red-blooded hero, he will naturally find this awfully dull after a while and be damn sorry he was ever taken in by ye-olde 1950s propaganda. While this is all true, the reader has to feel for Venetia, who, a red-blooded woman herself, has to suffer too much while the hero works out for himself that a woman who is an equal is damn better than one who is just his little wife (and all this based on the fact that Ryan's mum worked and thus didn't give him, poor lamb, her full attention). Feel free to go along for the ride but don't complain if you too feel a bit bruised at the end of it all.

Smoke in the Wind.......2007-04-29
I just loved this book. Enough magic for any fantansy fan, but with plenty of humour. I only hope Phil Hanson is planning a sequel or three.
A MUST READ!!.......2004-11-08
Witty and well written! Smoke In The Wind is a great read. Wil Hansons style of writting is unique and entertaining. This book is simply enjoyable and fun.
Spellbinding and enchanting fantasy .......2004-11-01
On Sam Guest's first day as an architect in his own firm he receives a commission via mail and by the time he finishes the sketches for the building he is no long on Earth but on the planet Cul where magic works. He wakes up in the castle of the powerful wizard Aleb and his beautiful daughter Gisele. They tell him that he was touched at birth by the High Ones, has latent power he never knew about and when the time was right Aleb would train him in magic so that the wizard can retire to his own planet.
It is love at first site for Sam and Giselle but he is a man on a mission. He must learn everything he can about wizardry from Aleb and then from ancient Evenan when Aleb disappears. When he gets through his training he will be the most powerful wizard in the world. However the reptilian wizard Ervic wants to kill him before he can grow into his powers. Ervic's goal to control all of Cul and he has more wizards joining him every day. A showdown between these two is inevitable.
SMOKE IN THE WIND is a spellbinding and enchanting fantasy book. Sam makes the transition from Earth to Cul very easily because he always felt he had a different destiny that could not be accomplished on his native planet. His fairy familiar Dah and an intelligent horse adds humor to this action packed tale. Fans of THE WARLOCK IN SPITE OF HIMSELF will love Will Hanson's work. Hopefully, there will be other works that follow the adventures of Sam in Cul.

Book Description
The conflict on Blue Isle is rapidly reaching a head when one unexpected event suddenly gives the Islanders a fighting chance. Adrian's son Luke, chafing under Fey rule, leads a group of his fellow farmers in a secret strike against a Fey outpost. They are seeking only to unbalance their conquerors, to prove that the Fey are not as vigilant as they believe, but in destroying the outpost, Luke and his fellows inadvertently destroy a stronghold of Fey magick, setting off a wave of power that cripples anyone possessing magickal powers.
Meanwhile, in the town of Constant, Matthias is learning more about his mysterious powers and the truth behind a religion he had all but abandoned. While in the Place of Power, high in the Cliffs of Blood, King Nicholas has begun exploring the stored artifacts of the Blue Island religion, many of which may prove as deadly to the Fey as the once-feared holy water.
And as for Rugad, furious at Luke's attack and feeling his control over his people and his slipping, he knows the time to strike is now-lest he lose the opportunity altogether. Already, the Fey have lost their first battle to the Islanders in the Cliffs of Blood. And Rugad does not intend that it should happen again.
Now, as Rugad's forces march in force against the town of Constant, the fate of all the Blue Isle may rest on the most unlikely alliance of all. For if King Nicholas cannot join together with the man who once killed his wife, all of Blue Isle may pay the price.

Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
A guerilla raid by the resistance to the Black King has unforeseen consequences. Their attack unwittingly destroys an important source of magical power for The Fey, bringing the conflict back on a more equal footing. The Blue Islanders get a chance to get back into the game, and to fight to take back what was theirs, as long as they can make a key partnership work, overcoming differences.
I love this series!.......1999-08-30
These books just get better and better. The fourth and fifth books are especially good. The story is fascinating: I love the discovering of the true nature of Blue Isle's religion. The characters are not perfect people, which makes them all the more intriguing; Coulter is definitely my favourite character! Altogether: WONDERFUL!
A good series ends not with a bang, but with a whimper........1999-05-10
After avidly following this series (and I'm not one of those fantasy readers who commits to reading umpteen books set in the same world), I was disappointed in this ending. The joining of Nicholas and Matthias to defeat the Black King brought the legend of the Roca full circle, and to some extent resolved their differences. (And gave the ruthless Rugad a fitting ending.) But the events following that climax were depicted incredibly weakly. How did Jewel get the Fey to accept a "half-breed" as queen, considering that the Black King had left other heirs? (Perhaps that dilemma will be dealt with in more depth in the next series.) How did Nicholas, Arianna and the others get back to Jahn without encountering Fey armies? Were the fierce Fey truly that demoralized by the King's death? I also wasn't satisfied with the somewhat pointless wandering of Luke and Con, or with the "resurrection" of Sebastian. Nevertheless, I will definitely be reading the Black Throne series. Knowing Arianna, Gift, and Coulter are worth any minor flaws in the book's content.
I loved this book.......1999-04-20
I believe this to be one of the greatest books ever written. Even tough it is a bit grusome at times, you can't stop reading. I read a lot of fantasy, and I think this is almost as good as Tolkien. I think that it will be a clasic one day. I has such a wonderful plot with many twists and turns. The entiar seiries is excelent. I loved it, and will read it agai, and again.
Great Series.......1999-01-05
This is a simply great book, in a great series. "Victory" is of a more epic scale than the first four books, and is a fitting end to this cycle as well as a beginning to the next. The book was violent, but as in the real world, people die in wars in books. Actually there were more characters alive at the end than I had expected. Besides that,I that the only thing that has disappointed me at all about "The Books of the Fey" is the lack of a map of the Blue Isle.

Bill Phillips had been publishing bodybuilding magazines and marketing nutritional supplements for years when he had a weird revelation at a trade show: many of the most loyal and enthusiastic readers he had were totally out of shape. From that uncomfortable realization came his popular Physique Transformation Contest (top prize that first year: Phillips's own Lamborghini), now world famous, and this book.
The three-times-a-week weightlifting program in Body for Life is deceptively simple. If you've spent any time in the gym, you've already done all the exercises. But Phillips includes a couple of high-intensity sets at the end of each exercise that should compound the training effect on each muscle group. Same goes for the cardiovascular exercise he recommends: just 20 minutes, three times a week. But those 20 minutes are spent jacking the intensity up and down, accomplishing more in less time.
Phillips arranges all this into a 12-week program, along with nutritional and motivational tips. Be warned that the nutritional advice gets a little spacey. For example, he puts "carbohydrates" and "vegetables" into separate categories, and recommends three daily doses of a nutritional supplement called Myoplex, which his company manufactures. (Fortunately, he gives tips on how to make each dose taste different, such as by adding drops of peppermint extract.) Despite this strangeness, Body for Life still motivates because so many others have achieved astounding results in similar 12-week windows, and the pictures and testimonials are here as evidence. --Lou Schuler
Amazon.com Audiobook Review
Bill Phillips is many things to the people who listen to this audiotape: personal trainer, motivational guru, nutrition consultant, personal-success coach. As he reads his bestselling book, he inspires, cajoles, instructs, and sometimes gives listeners a kick in the gluteals. The goal is for the listener to transform his or her body in 12 weeks, and in the process learn that changing one's physique can help one make other changes. The audiobook is spiced up with the comments and testimonials of those who've already done it. The effect is something like an infomercial, except that you've already bought the product, and you don't have to listen to a hired audience clapping. If you follow Phillips' program, you're your own audience. And, if you like your performance, the applause is what you feel inside. (Running time: 2 hours, 2 cassettes) --Lou Schuler

NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART.......2007-09-29
Excellent, excellent plan for those who want to lose weight and transform their bodies; difficult, and so the more people you recruit to do with you, the better. I bought this book for 6 people, and we all started together. It has a very nice nutrition plan; weight-lifting regimen that the novice can start yet equally challenging for those that have lifted for years. Highly recommend this 12 week program if you really want to transform.
My review........2007-09-28
Applying the principles of this book resulted in, easily, the greatest life changing experience of my entire life. The book is an easy read, and the principles are easy to follow. The principles of the program, by the way, may seem strange, but follow them to the letter, they work remarkably well. The results will amaze you and everyone else that knows you.
Good book with great insight.......2007-09-04
I workout a good bit, and this book helps you keep up with your routine. Phillips is a master at putting things simply and setting goals.
Great exercise plan.......2007-08-23
Book was well written and easy to understand. Exercise plan is great and easy to keep up with. I don't totally agree with the eating plan, just a little carby for me. I am pairing the exercise plan with the Protien Power eating plan and it is working well for me. I am about 1/3 of the way through my first 12 week challange and am really starting to see some lean muscles popping out. :)
The Real Deal.......2007-08-04
This is the Real Deal, no BS weight loss promises like no working out and eat all the food you want and still lose weight junk. He tells it like it is that you don't get the body you want by sitting around, you need to start working out and eating right. He has a fitness plan set up for you as well as menu's with recipes. Also buy his Eating For life book, some GREAT recipes in there let me tell you. He has a website you can also go to and get information and tips from too. Great book. No gimmicks, eat healthy foods, exercise, High intensity workouts lasting 20 mins cardio and then strength training by RPEs

This book is vey informative and right on point with true Ital eating.. my only wish is that there were MORE recipes.. :-)
fantastic banana porridge, easy recipes.......2007-01-10
I'm a little disappointed that this is the only Rasta cookbook out there, however I really enjoyed this one. Recipes did lack a little flavor but with a little tweaking these recipes help to create new and healthy alternatives to everyday food. Overall this cookbook was well worth the money.
EASY RECIPES!.......2006-07-12
This book delivered on so many levels. It provided me with quick and easy recipes, Best of all it is comletely vegetarian! This book will definately add to my favorite recipes.

Its a ital cook book, just what i been looking for :) thankyou
Comming from a rasta...........2002-04-27
Comming from a Rasta I must admit that it is hard to find books that teach u to cook vegeterian and "ital" all at the same time. All though I already knew how to do both BEFORE I bought the book, It was still a nice gesture to see the recipes ranging from all over the carribean and African Decent. Some of these recepies include but are not limited to peas and rice (made with brown rice), herb dumpling, plenty of different soups, stews, tofu patties, derserts including Ital ice creams (mango, coconut, pawpaw...etc ), Breads made with no added perservaties or dairy products (fully vegeterian), and plenty of fresh fruit drinks as well. Including carrot juice (zion juice), pawpaw, freshly homemade punches, etc....Being a cook myself I must say that i was impressed by the context. These receipies are more or less like Cousines rather then just ordinary Vegeterian food. One can make good use from it. A meal that I have often found most deseriable in the book is the vegeterian stuffed bell peppers taken from the entree catagory, peas and rice/ sweet corn and rice taken from the side dish category, and steamed callaloo taken from the vegetable and side dish category. Having it washed down with some sweet coconut water or some other kind of NATURAL fruit (taken from the juice senction ) or vegetable juice makes a deserible meal that vegeterians, non vegeterians, Rastas, and non Rastas will feel priveledged to have enjoyed.
