MEET THE CATERER WHO WHIPPED UP THE
MULTIMILLION-COPY MYSTERY SERIES–
AS GOLDY SOLVES HER FIRST MURDER!
Diane Mott Davidson’s winning recipe of first-class suspense and five-star fare has won her and caterer Goldy critical raves and a regular place on major bestseller lists across the country. In Goldy’s tantalizing debut, she serves up a savory dish of secrets, suspicions, and murder....
INCLUDING NEVER-BEFORE-PUBLISHED RECIPES
Catering a wake is not Goldy’s idea of fun. Yet the Colorado caterer throws herself into preparing a savory feast including Poached Salmon and Strawberry Shortcake Buffet designed to soothe forty mourners. And her culinary efforts seem to be exactly what the doctor ordered...until her ex-father-in-law gynecologist Fritz Korman is struck down and Goldy is accused of adding poison to the menu. Now, with the Department of Health impounding her leftovers, her ex-husband proclaiming her guilt, and her business about to be shut down, Goldy knows she can’t wait for the police to serve up the answers. She’ll soon uncover more than one family skeleton and a veritable stew of unpalatable secrets–the kind that could make Goldy the main course in an unsavory killer’s next murder!

Not a yummy dish........2007-09-21
I found "Catering to Nobody" to be a disappointing read. As others have noted the pose was flat. I kept trying to like the book, but I found Goldy, the protagonist to be whiny. I should have saved some hours in my life and just skipped to the ending. I found the characters to be flat, not well developed and not very interesting. And this was a shame because I think some of the characters could have been interesting and I could have cared for them. At the end I was just glad to be done with the book. I liked the idea of the recipes but after seeing mayonnaise in her Guacamole I just may pass. I will not be spending any more of my money or time on a Diane Mott Davidson book
Goldy's First Case.......2007-02-28
Catering a wake is hardly Goldy Bear's idea of a good time. This is especially true when the wake is for her son's former teacher. Eleven year old Arch was very close to Laura Smiley and her suicide came as quite a shock to him and the entire town of Aspen Meadow.
During the wake, Fritz Korman keels over. The police quickly determine that there was poison in his coffee. Fritz happens to be Goldy's ex-father-in-law. While she his happy to be rid of her ex-husband, she still gets along relatively well with Fritz.
Even more upsetting, the police shut down Goldilocks' Catering while they investigate how the poison got into Fritz's coffee. Since the holiday season is coming up, Goldy can't afford to stay shut down for long, so she begins her own investigation. She figures there was to be a reason Fritz was poisoned at the wake, so she also looks into Laura's life. The more she investigates, the more she is convinced that the teacher didn't commit suicide. Was she murdered? Any why did someone try to kill Fritz?
With all the culinary themed mysteries I read, I am finally getting around to reading the one of the first of the genre. And I can see why this series is popular. The characters are great. They seem like real people right off the bat. Even Arch seems like a real boy and not an adult in child's skin. On the other hand, the plot moved slowly and I couldn't believe how much the police shared with Goldy. As is customary in these types of books, there are recipes to be enjoyed after you've read the story.
Despite the flaws with the plot, the rich characters will probably pull me back for a second helping of food and murder.
Catering to Mystery-Lovers.......2006-12-08
This book is very well-written. It takes awhile to get started, and is, in some places, a bit dry. However, the book always outshines the dryness in a plethora of other ways. The characters are sterling representations of real people. This author is a genius at characterizations. Especially of her children characters! Furthermore, it is nice to see a small town-country setting. For once I am able to connect with the place where these characters live! Nothing but a shopping trip or two takes place in a big city. Ms. Davidson does a superb job of capturing small town life. I suppose she's just wonderful at capturing the character of everything-her people and her places.
This book also contains a unique bit: recipés! The main character, Goldy, is a caterer, and many of "her" recipés are available throughout the story. I'll probably never be using them, but it is kind of interesting... and nice. If I ever get the urge to make toffee or mayo I guess I'll know where to look.
I consider this book more mystery than suspense. Actually, only a few places are suspenseful, as most of the story tries to get you to think about the clues, the characters, and the motives. Very effectively done.
Also, it takes an interesting look on some hot moral topics from a perspective that I'd never considered before.
Catering to Nobody.......2006-06-15
In the first book in this culinary mystery series we meet Goldy Bear, a single mom raising an 11 yr old boy, without much help from her abusive ex husband. Goldy makes her living as a caterer, and the upcoming holiday season is the bread and butter of her business. So when her ex father in law is poisoned at one of her catered events, and the blame falls to Goldy, she is in big financial trouble. Feeling the police are moving too slow, Goldy finds herself being an amateur sleuth and trying to solve the mysterious poisoning herself.
Along with being a great start to this mystery series, there are amazing recipes included in the book. I look forward to reading more of this series by Diane Mott Davidson.
A great start.......2006-04-15
I'm new to the Goldy Bear mysteries. I fell in love with the series when I picked up Double Shot when it first came out and I'm just now getting around to starting the series from the beginning.
I loved this book because you really fall in love with Goldy, Arch and Marla. You feel for Goldy because of everything going on in her life and Marla lightens things up.
If you're not looking for a "cozy" mystery, I wouldn't recommed this book. If you're looking for a light, fun mystery, I suggest you start here.

Davidson's triple play.......2007-08-15
This set contains 3 abridged books: "Dying for Chocolate," read by Barbara Rosenblat; "Catering to Nobody," read by Mary Gross; and "The Last Suppers," read by Barbara Rosenblat.
Barbara Rosenblat did a fine job with "Dying," including some different voices for the characters. Her voice was especially good after the car crash, when I could've sworn she was actually crying, and her rendition of Arch, as a whining 11 year-old, was appropriately annoying.
The problem with both of her books, however, was that the CDs aren't divided into tracks, so if I fell asleep, got distracted, or walked away there was no way to get closer to where I'd stopped. Listening to the first CD 4 times got a little old.
Mary Gross did an adequate job with "Catering," which did have tracks but no appreciable voices.
Aside from the missing tracks, I thought the voice levels were weak and uneven on all of the books. I found that I had to turn the volume far beyond that of other books in order to hear it, even right next to me, then, shortly, the voice would be blasting. Additionally, I would have appreciated it if there had been a notice somewhere about the chronological order, which seems to be "Catering," "Dying," and "Suppers." The books refer back to each other, so it would be nice to be able to catch that.
Despite the problems, I gave this set 4 stars. It's a good value, but it could stand some improvements.

Brief, comical adventures set in the world of OH, MY GODDESS.......2002-12-19
See what goes on in the life of Keiichi Morisoto and the goddess sisters in between their regular adventures. As some of you may know, this was turned into an anime series that spans over four DVDs.
There are some simularities and some differences between the anime and the manga "Mini-Goddess" stories. The tone of both versions of Mini-Goddess is solely wacky comedy without the drama. They are a series of very short stories, (the manga stories are about a page long consisting of four panels each, with a few multi-part stories, the anime stories are each five and a half minutes, with a few multi-part stories.) The primary focus of the manga and anime Mini-Goddess is on Urd, much more so than on Skuld or Belldandy, (or Keiichi,) and it has the goddess sisters speaking to and interacting with house hold rodents. A few manga stories made it directly to the anime-Urd baby sits rat children, Urd plays fortune teller to help a rat find his significant other, Urd and Skuld play base ball and each sub-divide herself to form a team, the goddesses and a rat form a rock n' roll band.
Now for the differences. In the anime, there is one rat in particular named Gan who is also at the center of things, while in the manga most of the rats don't have a name so we can't tell if it's the same one in most of the stories or not. Keiichi makes an appearence in some of the manga stories, while in the anime he is only heard breifly in about three episodes, and is never actually seen. And except for the specific episodes mentioned earlier, none of the manga stories made it to the anime, all the other anime Mini-Goddess stories were made origonally for the anime. There is alot more breaking of the fourth wall in the anime, and a few Urusei Yatsura-type episodes that end with a major problem that is never resolved, only forgotten. (In the last anime episode with Gabira, the Godzilla-type monster that Gan turns into, he and a mechanized robot rat are drinking sake, and we never see him turn back to normal.)
But anyway, this is a good investment if you like OH, MY GODDESS! and you don't mind reading stories where they aren't facing any terrible crisis or going through character-developing experiences, but are good just for light entertainment and some good laughs.
fun stuff.......2002-02-24
As an earlier reviewer said this is for hardcore goddess fans only, and being one of those thsi book appeals to me. The humor is quite strange. We rarely see Keiichi or Belldandy. Urd and Skuld are the main characters as well as a rat nicknamed Gan-chan. The reader is expoused to goddess volley ball and baseball games. the two teams are made up of divided Skulds and Urds. We also get to see what happens when Urd divides too much. Fun stuff, but only for a mega fan of the series.
only for the hardcore fan.......2002-02-02
a very thin graphic novel that will appeal only to the hard core goddess fan. the humour is pretty weird at times and the stories are of the short 3 panel variety. skip this book and focus on the manga series (unless of course you already have those and have spare cash laying around)
In the Handy Petite Size!.......2001-06-15
This book contains a number of four-panel cartoon strips which feature the cast of the regular Oh My Goddess! series except that the goddess are are now approximatly the same size as rats. They prance through the book in their mini state interacting with crickets, slugs, and rats. While it's all very cute I won't reccomend it to anyone who isn't all ready a pretty big fan of Oh My Goddess! because it doesn't really make sense unless you're all ready familar with the characters. It doesn't really have a plot, but that's the way it's intended to be. Cute, funny, and short. And it has succeeded admirably.

Doctor Who Short Trips is a series of themed short story anthologies of new Doctor Who fiction, featuring the Doctor in all of his first eight incarnations. They feature stories written by some of the leading names in Doctor Who, past and present, including Paul Cornell, Gareth Roberts, Christopher H. Bidmead, and Paul Magrs. Repercussions features 16 tales set on a strange airship taking its passengers on a trip to who-knows-where. Among the people aboard is young adventuress Charley Pollard, just a few weeks into her life aboard the TARDIS alongside the Eighth Doctor, a man whose past she knows frighteningly little about. She encounters a diplomat trying to stop a war, a young man seemingly murdered by the Doctor, a tramp, a seismologist, and a republican trying to save the life of his plague-stricken daughter. One thing they all have in common: an encounter with a strange alien visitor who seemed to help them, but perhaps should have left them alone.

Great book for kids and parents!.......2007-08-31
I love this book! I bought it for my 3 kids, ages 3-7. My daughter immediatley picked out recipes to make for the weekend. The book itself is a spiral book, so it lies on the counter nicely to read from while cooking. Every single recipe has a photo, which is great!! We have such a blast making recipes together. Besides kids learning to cook and use utensils, it is a perfect way to bond with your children. I highly recommend this book!

Gave this to a young child who loves being in the kitchen with mom!
Great gift
Practical cookbook.......2007-01-16
After looking at several cookbooks geared to children, I selected this one because it was in a format similar to an adult cookbook, had excellent photographs and recipes to make fun food. It was laid out in a orderly manner, whereas other cookbooks for children were not.
Kids cookbook.......2007-01-15
This book is nice but however, I was hoping it would have more basic things to make. Has a good section for themed parties and holidays etc. Alot of the items are specialty items not everyday food to make.
Mom & Kid Tested, Both Approved.......2007-01-06
I taught both my sons to cook before they left for college. My daughter-in-law is not a cook. I thought my seven year-old grandson needs to learn to cook if he is to eat much more than something from the drive thru. This was his Christmas present. Both mom and son looked thru the book and selected dishes they each wanted to prepare. They made their grocery list, went shopping for the ingredients, and prepared their dishes. So far, everyone involved is very pleased with the results and proud of their efforts. I'm told everyone in the family likes the cookbook because it can be used by cooks of different ages and different skills levels. Thank you, Pillsbury!!
