Book Description
The murder of a particularly difficult mother-of-the-bride has cast a pall on wedding planner Annabelle Archer's latest triumph -- and suspicion falls heavily on her sometime-business partner and friend Richard Gerard. Annabelle knows that even her trusted wedding emergency kit won't be able to salvage their careers if she and Richard can't find the real culprit.
It's no easy task since the slain matron was perhaps the most hated socialite in D.C., but Annabelle navigates through the city's colorful wedding industry and powerful social scene on the deadly trail of a killer. Always the bridal consultant and never the bride, she's seen her fair share of bouquet tosses. But there's no telling what surprises a ruthless killer will throw her way if she gets too close.

Fun Cozy Mystery.......2007-05-24
Annabelle Archer is an wedding planner in Washington D.C. I love Annabelle. She has a cozy apartment and a cozy life. Her caterer friend, Richard, makes some wedding foods that sound so good.
Someone is murdered at the wedding. Annabelle is determined to find out who did it. The clues are good.
Annabelle and Richard make the book really good. It is a very cozy book. I do not really care for Kate, though. But the rest of the book is strong enough to make up for Kate, without Kate lowering the book to a 4. Kate sounded so stupid when messing up sayings. She needed more of a personality than that.
But other than that, the book was really good. The atmosphere was cozy, the food was good, and the mystery was interesting. And because I love Annabelle so much, I will definitely read the next book of the series.
cute first novel and friends.......2007-02-01
this is a cute first novel and the friends Annabelle has keeps it interesting.
I would buy the second one in the series too.
Cute fun easy read.
Cozy Mystery For Older Readers.......2006-08-30
This cozy-type mystery has some good points: it's got an interesting hook because the "detective" is a wedding planner and it's a fast read if you are pulled in enough by the story to not put it down. I unfortunately thought the book was really ho hum.
The first major downfalls is the sidekicks - the gay caterer friend who is the textbook drama queen, the friend Kate who messes up every saying (that people do not use in normal conversation today) in a really dumb way, like saying "a bird in the hand is worth two bushes" instead of "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." Another time Kate says she'll "hold down the fork" instead of "hold down the fort." It was really corny and not funny at all.
The second flaw is that the major part of the story is Annabelle/Richard/Kate questioning people, almost getting in trouble, and the nosy neighbor showing up trying to play detective too. The sort of love interest is the real detective who, other than being hot, isn't that interesting and has no personality. He seems amused at Annabelle but isn't that dramatic.
I didn't finish the last few chapters because I just didn't care if the killer was caught, I didn't care about Annabelle enough and I'm not sure why, maybe because her friendships all seem superficial. It seems like this story is a cozy mystery but is marketed as a chick-lit type mystery. It would have been way funnier if all the characters were about forty years older and it was marketed as a cozy mystery for older readers. The young women reading this will want juice - hotter stuff going on with the detective, more cutting edge wedding industry fashion, less goofy sayings, less Matlock type detective work.
Still all in all I may try one more just to see because others reviewers seem to rave...
Fine - Would not read the rest.......2006-08-07
This book was ok, if not a little predictable. I would not read another one from the series. However, it is somewhat cute and light, and if you are looking to finish a cute book in a couple of days, this one is OK.
Who killed the mother of the bride?.......2006-05-10
Wedding planner Annabelle Archer and her assistant stumble over the body of the dead mother-of-the-bride during the reception. Not a good thing at all.
The caterer, and Annabelle's friend, Richard Gerard comes under suspicion. So, Annabelle sets out to find out who killed the most hated socialite in D.C., which is no easy task. Her assistant and Richard assist her. Her neighbor does her fare share as well, including continually getting the handsome detective to return to Annabelle's.
Can Annabelle help Richard, run her wedding planning business, and uncover a killer all without finding herself the next victim? She finds herself in many sticky situations while trying.
I truly loved this book. I now know why it won Best First Novel at Malice Domestic this year. It is a fun, fast read! Bad thing was that I finished it so fast. I can't wait to read the next one. Annabelle is such a great character. She's witty and fun and has wonderful people around her. The handsome detective helps stir things up as well.
I felt the plot was well written as well. Plenty of red herrings and twists to keep you thinking who could have done it. I highly recommend this book.

Book Description
Is magic an illusion for Connla, or is the illusion those beings that magic has crafted?
The mighty Connla is weary from the tiresome and bloody battle fought in the name of his father, Conn, and his land, Erin. Willingly, he lets himself become intoxicated by the surreal beauty of a fairy-woman who offers to take him to a far away, forbidden land where all his desires will be fulfilled. He welcomes the opportunity to be away from the gruesome war that has consumed his life for so long, but what price will the warrior pay to be in a land void of death, loss and pain? Does the pleasure of company of the stunning stranger outweigh the price he must pay to remain in THE ISLES OF THE BLEST?

Fun and Philosophical.......2006-01-23
This is a very interesting book. I was attracted to it because I am always interested in stories about people wandering into the land of faerie, but it turned out to be so much more. Despite its simplicity, it is actually a very philosophical book, raising many questions about the nature of humanity. Connla gets to see what it is like to live in a "perfect" land, but he also comes to appreciate the unique gifts that come with being human and being mortal. It also presents the best description I have ever read of what the Sidhe, or fairies, are like, how they live in the moment because their lives are so long that they have little use for memory, and how they are not really capable of feeling love as humans do. Besides making me think, it was a fun read as well.
Wonderful storytelling for a night by the fire.......2006-01-08
This is an interesting little book, different from Ms. Llywelyn's normally epic scale. A shortish 200 page fairy tale, this tells the story of Connla's defection to the Sidhe. A nice little tale that you won't regret reading.
The price of eternal life in the land of faery.......2004-08-09
Morgan Llewelyn is the author of several very good historical novels, mostly set in Ireland. The Isles of the Blest is one of her shorter and lesser known novels, but, along with Bard, it is probably my favorite. The story itself is not original; it is taken from a very old and well known Irish tale. This retelling of it, however, is the best I've read.
The story is about a young warrior named Connla who falls in love with Blathine, a faery woman who takes him to her home, The Isles of the Blest. In this faery world, no one ages, time does not pass and pain, suffering and death are unknown. Morgan Llewelyn explores a complex metaphysical dilemma in this book, so it is more than a simple fantasy or folk tale. Connla must choose between mortal life, with all its pain and challenges and this ideal eternal life on the Isles of the Blest. If he chooses the latter, he will lose all of his earthly memories. What makes him reluctant are not only his fond memories of people and places he loved, but the realization that something is lacking in a world of total perfection. Wars are fought, but no one really dies; games of chance are played, but no one can really lose. Connla finds that this takes some of the meaning out of life. On the other hand, he very much loves the beautiful Blathine. Llewelyn has taken a traditional tale and filled it out with more details and speculations than such tales usually contain, at least in the versions that have survived over the years. As much as I enjoyed this book, the ending was a little less conclusive than I would have liked. On the other hand, it may have been the author's intention to leave the reader with a sense of ambiguity about Connla's dilemma.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in fantasy, Celtic myths or faeries. In particular, this book contains some valuable insights and poses some fascinating questions (some of which, perhaps inevitably, remain unanswered) about the mysterious world of faery.
In comparison..........2002-01-31
I'll just say that I have quickly become a fan of Morgan Llywelyn's books, having now read all of them. I just can't give this one 5 stars because it's not as good as her "5-star" fare, including 1916 and 1921. But rest assured, if you're interested in Irish folklore, this is a great one.
A great story of the Magic of Erin.......1997-12-15
This was a very easy read, and keeps in line with the rest Of Morgan Llwelyn novels.. This is nice because it is a break from her lenghtier novels.. I enjoyed very much, and would highly recommend it to any one interested in Myth, Legend, History or just plain enjoyment...

A vital book on the relationship of sunlight to human health. Studies from scientific literature are described which demonstrate the sunlight's effects on lowering cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar; on increasing endurance, sex hormones and resistance to infection. Crucial dietary suggestions are made to insure healthy skin when exposed to sunlight.

A man ahead of his time.......2007-09-20
This book although written 20 years ago is the work of a brilliant man. His observations are now being confirmed though medical research. This book is a must read.
Life Changing Information.......2007-02-22
Puzzled how the source of all life-energy on the planet became Public Enemy #1 and the culprit behind the rash of skin cancer in our society? Read this book to find out the real relationship between the Sun and our health and learn to reap the benefits of sunlight therapy!
Dr. Kime Put His Ideas to Work.......2003-03-28
When I was a patient of Dr. Kime's, like his other patients, we were all encouraged to read his book. Most of us had been to other physicians who couldn't help us. Gradual exposure to sunlight coupled with a diet that gradually introduced raw foods was a part of our treatment. I certainly flourished under Dr. Kime's regimen. Within a few months, we all looked like the healthiest bunch of sick people you ever saw. Though I was told by others that I would never recover--I did recover and lead a normal life, thanks to Dr. Kime's research, his book and his course of treatment. His understanding of sunlight and its role in not only maintaining, but returning one to health seems unique. The book is worthwhile reading for anyone who wants optimum health and an alternative to the typical medical response that exposure to the sun is bad for you.
a book sent from heaven ........2002-01-27
I think this is the most important book on health that I have ever read,I wish everone in the world would read it,
this simple but extremely important information was able to lower my mothers elevated blood pressure in just a few day.
5 Months of Daily Tanning Later & Excellent Health.......2000-12-12
Dr. Kime's book is easy to read, informative for laymen, yet fully scientifically documented and researched, and most interesting reading for everyone interested in adopting a full regimen of health reform, adding daily sunlight to diet, exercise, fresh air, pure water, etc. After 5 months of 4 to 5 day per week full-body tanning, my skin feels alive and healthy, as never before. A former pre-cancerous mole has practically disappeared without any other type of treatment. Sunlight is a healer, and Dr. Kime's book is right on target with truth incontrovertible and should be studied by everyone living in this ozone-depleted world today! royl@harborside.com

Cover review.......2006-02-08
from the back cover of the December 1993 TOR paperback edition
Cover art by John Berkey
Ancient Earth is doomed. Its sun will explode, not millions of years hence but in mere lifetimes - violently enough to scour Earth clean and leave the Empire of the Hundred Worlds adrift. For the handful of "primitives" left on Earth are the baseline for humanity's ever-diversifying genetic stock. Every other human world sends regular delegations to check their own genetic pool against "Earth normal".
Now the center will hold no longer. The Empire's scientists deem that nothing can be done. The age of heroism is past: this is the long, stagnant afternoon of the human race.
Until - over massive opposition - a single young woman makes her way to the Emperor with that rarity, a new scientific insight...and a plan, flowing from its implications, to mobilize humanity's slumbering energies toward a millennium-long effort of applied astrophysics. Of engineering carried out on the hearts of stars. A plan to save the Earth. To save the Sun.
A fairly good book, but with a couple strange twists..........2003-10-12
During the course of this book, one of the main characters travels near light speed to a certain place and back. In layman's terms, this means that she ages about a year while the other characters age about 40 years. While this is all written very well and realistic (for sci fi), it makes the book seem very discordant, like a trio of well-developed mini stories somewhat shoved together and on top of each other.
Worth your time to read, however, and although it doesn't leave any lasting memories, it does have some cool points in it. It's a good book to just sit back and relax and enjoy the story.

Another Jonathan Larson gem.......2001-04-04
If you loved Jonathan Larson's Tony award winning musical "Rent," you're going to love JP Morgan Saves The Nation. Larson uses the same styles he does in "Rent," and it just goes to show the genius he could be writing now were he still alive. If you're a die hard fan, this will make a nice addition to a Rent collection, or if you're just looking for some damn good theatre :)

Book Description
Two hundred years ago, Adela de Montgarde, the brilliant astrophysicist, conceived the centuries-long plan to forestall the death of Earth's sun, thus preserving the original genetic material of the Empire of the Hundred Worlds-and of the Emperors who enabled her visionary plan. Now Adela emerges from cold sleep to oversee the final stages of her great work. She awakens to an Empire transformed: her son Eric is Emporer, faster-than-light travel has finally been achieved, and humanity has spilled out to innumerable new planets, far beyond the Empire's Hundred Worlds. In the twilight of the Empire, human and alien factions vie for advantage, while Adela's awesome feat of stellar engineering approaches its final fruition: the preservation and re-invigoration of the fearsome light at the heart of humanity's first solar system....the saving of Earth's Sun.

A compelling novel about power and discrimination.......2002-07-07
Ben Bova wrote an amazing novel in To Fear the Light, although I have not read the first book (To save the sun) the book can stand on it's own right. It starts seeming as your standard run of the mill secret enemy wanting to destroy the empire sci-fi novel; however it ends in a compelling thoughtful story about the power of using our mistrust of each other to destroy somthing greater.

Food Art: Garnishing Made Easy.......2007-01-27
The book was received in excellent condition. However, it was too advanced for the use of teaching a beginners class. I think it will be of use in our kitchen, but not as I had intended.
He LOVES it!.......2006-09-16
Not only was the book cheaper on Amazon than the bookstores but I ordered this book for my boyfriend from here and I got it earlier than expected so that was great! He says it has great step-by-step images and that's a positive for him since he learns more from visuals. Also, it has instructions that he's able to follow and understand.
We both just wish it had more "food art" in the book but, overall, it's a great book!
Easy and Elegant.......2006-07-01
I am a caterer "wannabe" who has been doing food art for family and friends for some time and found this book to be a great launching tool for ideas. The carvings I enjoy the most are the potato flowers (very easy), tomato roses, & carrot tulips. Also, the photos of vegetable and cheese and cracker trays have been indispensible and well accepted when I imitated these in my displays. I would definitely recommend this book to both beginner and professional alike.
unrealistic and over the top.......2006-03-13
If you were the chef on a cruise ship, these techniques might be useful, but if you're setting out a buffet at home or as a caterer, you'd be insane to bother with this garish and elaborate nonsense. If you want people to actually eat your food, make it approachable; Nobody's going to go near it if they're afraid to ruin your work of "art". Even the photos on the cover of this book look overdone and artificial... not at all appetizing.
Food Art that is quick and easy!.......2005-03-08
