Myron Bolitar is a fascinating character--a guy in his 30s who just moved into his own New York apartment, and who still looks forward to dinner with his parents in New Jersey. A former pro-basketball star and Harvard Law School grad, he now runs his own sports agency, and also dabbles in the private investigation business. He is helped (and sometimes hindered) by his rich, blond, preppy friend Windsor Horne Lockwood III. Win has some awesome lethal powers hidden under his Brooks Brothers suits!
In The Final Detail Win and Myron are looking into the murder of a client--a troubled New York Yankees baseball player called Clu Haid. Clu was apparently shot to death by Esperanza Diaz, who just happens to be Myron's best friend and partner in the sport's agency. Esperanza is hiding something, but Myron isn't sure if it has to do with her job, or with her private life. His search for the truth takes him back to a shabby incident from his own past, and to times he would rather forget. Author Harlan Coben casually drops in dozens of poignant moments of humanity that keep us--and Myron--firmly grounded in reality.
Other books in this excellent series include Backspin, Deal Breaker, Drop Shot, and One False Move. --Dick Adler
Book Description
His heart is broken. His partner is in jail. And someone is trying to kill him.
Then Myron Bolitar gets some really bad news....
For sports agent Myron Bolitar, it seemed like the perfect vacation. A tropical beach. A warm breeze. A little uncomplicated passion with a woman he barely knows. Myron is almost in heaven when his friend Win shows up with a message that blasts him back to reality: Esperanza is in trouble. It's time to come home.
Now Myron is back in New York, determined to help Esperanza, his best friend and partner, who's been accused of killing one of their clients. But Esperanza isn't talking. Neither is her lawyer. And to prove his friend's innocence, Myron must trace the rise and fall of the victim, a pitcher who had been making a comeback with the Yankees. Suddenly the investigation is leading Myron to places he'd rather not go: into a family's agony, through the city's sexual underground, and to a moment buried on the dark side of a brilliant sports career.... Twelve years ago a young agent named Bolitar tried to help an up-and-coming athlete. It was a fatal mistake—and now Myron will have to pay the price....

Maybe Too Much Detail.......2007-10-09
By now you know the storyline so I won't rehash it. This is only my second Coben and the first of the Bolitar series. I enjoyed this mystery novel much better than the first Coben novel. To me, Coben appears to write "factory" mysteries; punching them out on the assembly line. They're always agreeable, seem to follow a pattern of sorts, and could use a better editor.
The Final Detail has some delightfully funny writing, some overly long descriptions, and a flawed and likeable protagonist. For easy to read mysteries for a long lazy afternoon, you can't go wrong with Coben. This particular novel had a twist to the end that I did not see coming and that's always a delight. Overall, this is light reading, so don't overthink the plot or you'll find holes and incredulous twists and turns.
I liked the fact that all of the characters were blemished, with maybe the exception of Win (perfect nickname). I also liked the fact that Myron seems so down to earth and unafraid to show his love for his parents--such a nice Jewish boy! But this nice boy is also capable of making major mistakes that will cost him and those he loves dearly.
Coben manages to use his vehicle to reminisce about baseball and the good 'ol days of innocence. And, he takes a shot at hero figures in sports as well. So, you've got a murder, humor, mystery, life lessons, lust, sexual deviants, sporting events and heros, an innocent defendant, and the mafia. What more does one need?
If you're a Coben fan, you won't want to miss this one. It's well written, intricately plotted, with fleshed out characters that you'll care about, and the occasional splash of humor. An easy enjoyable read. However, I'm unsure what the 'final detail' is?
Enjoyable audio read for the summer.......2007-08-27
I have read a few of the Bolitar stories and enjoy the character and his friends. This book did not disappoint from what I was expecting. Nice finish to the plot in the end. I did not see that coming.
amusing thriller.......2007-08-12
This is the first Coben book I have read from the sports agent series, and I did enjoy it. I especially liked the humor and secondary characters. This had more the feel of a Mike Lupica novel than a Harlan Coben book, based on the other Coben thrillers I have read. It was a light summer read, with a forgettable plot, but one I enjoyed while I read it. If you like mysteries that will make you smile a lot, this might be a good one for you.
MYRON BOLITAR, A MODERN DAY KNIGHT ON A QUEST?.......2007-05-01
Like a Knight on a quest, Myron matures during this adventure called, "The Final Detail".
While on a quest, Knights are physically strong, well trained, loyal, courageous, moral, courteous, and chivalrous. Knights are willing to voyage far to risk their lives for others, in order to defend those weaker than them. They are committed to righting wrongs and destroying evil. They face insurmountable problems, admit defeat or confess weakness, and call for help when needed. During a Knight's quest, he learns that he must participate in his society and that his significance rest in his ties to others. Finally, when his quest is completed he is granted enlightenment.
Yep, sounds like Myron Bolitar to me, only Myron is a lot funnier than any Knight that I've ever read about in this 6th book of the series, and yes, my favorite.
I was so hoping that Harlan Coben would either:
1 - Somehow get rid of the Big Cyndi character, or
2 - Give Big Cyndi a brain, or at least some human characteristics.
I was glad to read that she got exactly what her character deserved.
As always, I love Win; he is and always has been perfect; but still, his character grows more and more likable with every installment of this series. Same goes for Esperanza.
Good entertainment.......2007-01-30
I have not read a bad Coben book. Great books that seem to hold you right to the last page. The bits of humor add another level of entertainment to an already good book. I enjoy all of his books.

Book Description
The sudden disappearance of TWA flight 800 on the night of July 17, 1996 caused an avalanche of rumors and theories about what might have happened. A Boeing 747 does not just disappear in a split second. The NTSB's investigation of the crash became the most thorough, most expensive and largest accident investigation in the Safety Board's history. No stone was left unturned. The Safety Board concluded that the probable cause of the accident was an explosion of the center wing fuel tank (CWT), resulting from ignition of the flammable fuel/air mixture in the tank. The source of the ignition was most likely an electrical short circuit. The Safety Board, in the course of its investigation, inspected numerous airplanes to check on electrical wiring. What became clear is that wiring is a huge problem in aviation. Ed Block, a Defense whistleblower tried in the 1980s to draw attention to the problem but was fired instead of awarded. The military changed its wire specifications after massive problems, on commercial air planes nothing changed. Almost six years after the accident, the FAA has not done much. How many people have to die by wire before serious measures are taken?
Customer Reviews:
An Explosive Book.......2007-01-04
As a Aeronautical Science Major, this book gives factual insight into the downing of TWA800 and the ramifications of being complacent when addressing the issue of aging aircraft, esp. wiring. When the 747 was built (this aircraft was one of the first ten off of the assembly line in 1969-70), nobody thought it would still be flying in 1996 at the time of the accident. It was the beginning of the Jet Age in the true sense of the word and it never dawned on anyone that wiring, which was ultimately the root cause of this accident, would be an issue. If you are a aviation techie, read this book - you won't be disappointed!

Excellent.......2000-11-26
I bought this book at a barnes and noble book store (they don't have hardly any DL in their stores, btw), just because it was one of the few DL books on the shelf, and once I decided to read it (which was after a few weeks, cuz i thought the book would SUCK -- which it didn't) I was really suprised at what I read on the inside cover, that these tales are written by EXPERIENCED DL authors! Soooooooo I was like WHOA! damn, and I opened it and started reading, and I was like, really suprised man, at these awesome stories, dude.... No really, it's a really good tales book. MY fav. tale was, "The deep deep, dark dark place", which is about these gully draws and it was hilarious! Man u have to read this! Especially the one about the raid on the academy of High Sorcery, which is by Margaret Weis. It's really good =) And the other tales, of course, have some action in them! ~SO READ IT~
great collection of short stories.......2000-08-18
I liked this book of short stories in the 5th age of krynn. My favorite stories are Freedom's Pride,Sargas's night of revenge,Sharing the luck,Lost Causes,Blood Ties,Shard's Memory,Tactics, and Raid on the Academy of Sorcery. If you like Dragonlance and the world of Krynn then you will like this book.
New anthology in Dragonlance world........2000-04-07
You'll know that going on in the world after folling of the Gods. As the land of Krynn groans beneath the rule of mighty dragon overlords, small bands of rebels spring up to battle the new oppressors. From the streets of Palanthas to the Plains of Dust, from the frozen reaches of Ergoth to the swirling waters of the Blood Sea, here are tales to stir the heart and the imagination.

A book only a toddler could love.......1998-04-21
No, Barney & Baby Bop at the Beach is not great literature deftly composed by a renowned author. No, the illustrations are not superb works of art rendered by an inspired artist. An furthermore, in this book there is no depth of story line, development of character, nor spine tingling suspense. And, yes, this book deserves a ten exactly because it lacks all of the above. This is an unpretentious chunky, clunky board book based on the two outrageously purple and green popular television characters, Barney and Baby Bop. In the simplest of prose and the brightest of colors, they spend a delightful day at the beach doing just the ordinary, mundane things that any toddler delights in - playing with a sandpail, a beach ball and a dog, wearing sun glasses, building a sand castle, etc. And best of all, the book is tactiley interactive with cutaway sections of a squishy plastic beach ball, shiney sunglasses, furry dog, rough sand castle and more, for pudgy hands to explore! Summer's just around the corner. The annual family jaunt to the beach beckons as temperatures rise. Don't think twice about snapping this one up so your toddler can anticipate future fun by spending the day at the beach with Barney and Baby Bop.

Possibly Laumer's best work.......2005-11-29
I've been a fan of Keith Laumer since the 1960s. Most of his novels are considered "light" science fiction, but that doesn't begin to describe the strength of the writing. He usually seems not to take his own stories very seriously, but that's just his writing style. I guarantee he labored hard over them. Dinosaur Beach is one of his more serious efforts, and in my opinion his best work. The main character is a time traveler, on a mission to undo a lot of damage done to the timestream by previous time-travelers. The book starts, in typical Laumer fashion, with the main character being warned that he's about to he murdered. He's not impressed with the news, and asks what business the guy has telling someone they were going to die, even if it's true. Things get crazier and crazier, and in the end, make perfect sense. Laumer is a master at creating situations where things get so screwed up that one starts to think no author could make sense out of it, and then he proceeds to make such perfect sense of it that the reader asks himself how he didn't see it coming. And in the meantime, as one tries to unravel the plot, the writing style keeps the reader marvelously entertained, never letting up on the pace and keeping us guessing at every turn. I've read this book several times, and lent it to friends so often that I had to buy it again twice. This is a science fiction classic, and a masterpiece.
Poignant.......2001-12-27
This book can be read on many levels. At once it is a love story, a book about time travel, war, the future of mankind and above all, consciousness itself.
Perhaps I am reading too much into this little novel, but it struck me on a very deep level. The last 3 chapters of the book have a poignancy for me which I will never forget, which, upon reading it again, still brings a tear to my eye. It speaks to me of the nature of consciousness itself, which is not destructive, but loving.
To me this is a superbly written classic, a beautiful novel that can be read as just good SF, or as a description of the universal nature of consciousness.
I rank this little book at the very top echelon of the greatest SF of all time; indeed as one of the best works of fiction I've ever read.
You won't find a better time travel book.......2001-06-12
This one is pretty much definitive. It will keep your attention. Tersely and well written. Pretty amazing considering how early in Keith Laumer's career this was - a pretty diverse guy in style.
A Time War Classic.......2000-04-11
Put this on the shelf next to The Big Time-- together these books say everything interesting there is to say about time travel based warfare. This is one of Laumer's best, with a nice balance between his silly and his serious sides. Highly recommended-- hope it's back in print soon.
Dinosaur Beach; Revisited.......1999-12-21
I read Dinosaur Beach years ago; the delightful imagination and use of the time travel angle coupled with a love story made an interesting and wide ranging yarn. One of my Laumer favorites. I actually met with Keith Laumer in 1986 at his island house in Florida, and among other interesting topics, he stated that the book was even being considered for a movie at one time.

Great books for the challenging fours.......2007-08-06
My daughter went through a tough phase right before she turned four that involved a lot of emotion and difficult expressing her frustrations, anger, sadness, etc. This series of books was recommended to me by her preschool teacher, and she LOVED them. They are very relatable for young kids and also communicate the lessons I was trying to teach her about articulating her feelings versus throwing a tantrum. I'd definitely recommend them.

Can it be that there are no bad cooks in Italy and Sicily? Or maybe there are only a few really good cooks, while the rest aren't so much mediocre as simply ordinary. But it's the children of the really good cooks who end up on TV cooking shows and in magazines and writing cookbooks, much like Nick Stellino's Family Kitchen, that skew what's real.
Nick Stellino has made a living in print and on TV selling the Italian family table, and this book is very much in that same vein--a little more personal, if nothing else. In often overly sentimental vignettes, Stellino shares with the reader the soul of his own family, the generations of aunts and uncles and grandparents, all of them seemingly either living in or very close to the kitchen. From this experience the reader can glean some helpful tips on how to prepare foods to cook in the Italian kitchen, how to plan meals, how to enjoy good food, and, of course, how to enjoy life: follow your dreams, follow your heart, money comes and goes but family is there forever. Stuff like that.
Stellino prides himself on presenting Italian dishes in simple, quickly assembled recipes, and that's what Nick Stellino's Family Kitchen is all about. The text is divided into chapters that include appetizers, soup, salad, and side dishes; pasta, entrees, desserts, basics; and menus. You'll find Braised Artichokes, Mussel Soup with Curry, Spinach Cannelloni, Chicken Scaloppine with Mushroom Sauce, Swordfish Scaloppine "Pizza Style," and Ricotta Cake with Coffee and Chocolate. --Schuyler Ingle

Customer Reviews:
In 2 years, I haven't moved past the Pasta chapter!.......2002-05-02
I love to cook, and my family loves to eat, but we don't always have time for that! Nick Stellino has a wonderful repertoire of quick pasta dishes, for which we usually have the ingredients on hand(or can come close enough). These aren't your typical spaghetti and meatballs pastas, but interesting, exciting, alternatives that my whole family enjoys (I have 4 kids from 8 to 15). I can't live without this book, and his others!
Fantastico!.......2001-01-19
After watching Nick's program on PBS, I was dying to try some of these mouth-watering recipies. Fortunately, this book is a gift that keeps on giving! Some of the recipies require more preparation time, but they are very simple and easy to follow. So far, I have yet to try a bad recipie. Some of the combinations of ingredients are very unique, but have incredible bursts of flavors. It is a must-have for those who love Italian and Sicilian cooking!
Nick Stellino's Family Kitchen.......2000-02-14
I just seen Nick at a recent cooking demo and he explained that when he wanted to write this book he spoke with his publisher and said that if he could have "full say" in this book he would do it for half the going rate! He was that passionate about every aspect of this book. The recipes are simple and wonderful, the stories are heartwarming. Nick Stellino... great chef, even greater person. Grazie molto Nick!

Nick Stellino's Family Kitchen.......1999-12-02
A usual, Stellino shows lots of care and passion for his book and his recipes. I have all four if his books and recommend this one to anyone who wants to eat well while not having to spend all day in the kitchen. Bravo! 5 stars!
