JASON BOURNE
Reenter the shadowy world of Jason Bourne, an expert assassin still plagued by the splintered nightmares of his former life. This time the stakes are higher than ever. For someone else has taken on the Bourne identity—a ruthless killer who must be stopped or the world will pay a devastating price. To succeed, the real Jason Bourne must maneuver through the dangerous labyrinth of international espionage—an exotic world filled with CIA plots, turncoat agents, and ever-shifting alliances—all the while hoping to find the truth behind his haunted memories and the answers to his own fragmented past. Sharp, Fast, Smart.......2007-10-01
As everyone has said, it's nothing like the movie. But the plot is crisp, and Jason's in rare form. It's a good idea to start the trilogy w/Identity. Starting here, with book #2, would be awfully confusing.
SO different from movie..........2007-09-25
The second book in Ludlum's trilogy is so removed from
the movie there is no real comparison. It is the same
character as in the first book and the story picks up
a short time after the first book ends. This plot is
set in Asia most of the way and is very similar to the
first book, but not quite as interesting. It does have
numerous settings in interesting places and the style
makes it a page turner, so not terrible, but not as good
as the first.
Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Jason Bourne has recovered his memory, and is living a happy academic life with Marie, the woman he met in the first book. He is using an assumed name.
Bourne was used as an assassin stalking horse by Project Treadstone earlier in his career, The aim was to try and draw out Carlos the assassin, by infuriating him by claiming credit for his kills.
Someone is trying the same trick, using Bourne's name, and he has to investigate. Marie is abducted, and each half of the Bourne pair has information the other needs, so they have to try and work out how to get together.
Barely good.......2007-05-21
While the first Bourne novel had a really interesting idea for a plot; that of a man who woke up and didn't know he was and attempted to find out among violence, this is a mere continuation of a story that didn't need one. Ludlum's writing is of a style I can't stand, I've learned. He uses lots of italics, lots of exclamation points, his characters' inner thoughts are beyond cliche, and attempts at romantic dialogue are laughable. But still, somehow, he grips pulp fiction espionage enough to make one want to finish his books. While I didn't hate this, I couldn't say I liked it. Mostly bad writing saved by some cool ideas and fun action (though neither as good as the first of the trilogy).
Superb Action Novel.......2007-02-17
This was just a super entertaining novel. The story is surrounded with lots of interesting factual information with a plausible scenario in the espionage world. I don't think there's such a thing as a perfect book. But Ludlum's story get's 100% for creativity and imagination.
Book Description
Eight CDs, 9 hrs.
performances by Darren McGavin
THE BOURNE IDENTITY-He is a man with an unknown past and an uncertain future. A man dragged from the sea riddled with bullets, his face altered by plastic surgery-a man bearing the dubious identity of Jason Bourne. Now he is running for his life, the target of professional assassins, at the center of a maddening deadly puzzle. Who is Jason Bourne? To answer that question, he must find the secret buried deep in his own past. And the only one who can help him is a beautiful stranger-the woman who once would do anything to escape him.
THE BOURNE SUPREMECY-The Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China is brutally slain in a Kowloon cabaret, and all the clues point to the legendary assassin, Jason Bourne. But Bourne never existed! The name was created as a cover for ace agent David Webb on his search for the notorious killer Carlos. Now someone else has resurrected the Bourne identity, and Webb is forced to use his murderous skills to stop him. Because once again, like a nightmare relived, the woman he loves is suddenly torn from his life. To find her, to trap his own imposter, Webb must launch a desperate odyssey into the killing fields of international espionage.
THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM-Thirteen years have passed since David Webb was last forced to assume the alias of the assassin Jason Bourne. Thirteen blissfully peaceful years: time enough to raise a family with his wife Marie, time enough to begin to put the violence and betrayal of the past behind him. Now with one phone call Webb is thrust back into the madness. His greatest enemy, Carlos, is hunting again-determined to stalk and eliminate the one man whose reputation as an assassin approaches his own, a determination that promises pain and death for David Webb and those who mean the world to him.

Robert Ludlum Value collection.......2007-08-28
These CD's are great. I have most of Ludlums books but it is nice to be able to listen in the car or at home without having to look for the book.
Book or Movie?.......2007-05-16
Well the book is far superior to the simple plots of the movies. But there is Matt Damon....
This version of the "Bourne Trilogy" gets a lively reading by Darren McGavin. It will keep you at the edge of your seat.
So, for eye candy go see the movies....
For the edge of your seat reading stick with the book.
Good item.......2005-07-06
Shipping was a bit delayed, but item arrived on time for father's day. Good overall--would recommend.
How is it possible to botch a book on tape?.......2005-04-12
I thought it wasn't possible, but Darren McGavin managed it. He mumbles, yes actaully mumbles his way through a performance for which the sole qualification is elocution. I don't care if he played the dad in Billy Madison. This is doubly frustrating, as the volumes are so heavily abridged, that missing a line is like missing 100 pages from the printed work. Oh yeah, and the musical cues dispersed throughout the reading to "heighten the tension" are stupid, just plain dumb.

Darren Macgavin should be band from performing audio books. Very hard to hear and understand. he virtually mumbled the stories for the most part and shouted in others. Not recommended

Liavek - The Players of Luck.......2000-04-09
This is the second of five books based in the city of Liavek -- home of wizards and magic. The only problem with getting involved with this series is the books are difficult to find. I hunt for them on auctions and in libraries. They are great short stories.

3 out of 11 is pretty bad.......2000-08-18
Out of the 11 stories I liked 3. My adivce would be to read the stories by Longyear (Best), Yolen (great), Wrede (good) and then forget about the rest. The funny thing is that the stories I hated the most were by the biggest name authors Brust and Wolfe. Most of the stories were like reading a single chapter out of a 'pulpish' fantasy novel. The characters attempted to be clever, there was a (simple) problem and it was solved (unoriginally). This is kind of what I remember the first Theive's World being like (about 15 years ago). If you like that kind of thing go for it, but I won't be hunting down the rest of this series.
Went on the hunt.......2000-05-04
Years ago when it came out in the craze of shared anthologizes, I picked up the first volume and enjoyed it a great deal. I thought it was very unique and the flavor of the writing was of a much grimmer nature to my eye then the Thieves World anthologies (of which in the later stages Thieves World went quickly downhill.) However, Liavek was much more fascinating to me. Unfortunately, I was in the service when they came out and was overseas and never found the last four. About two years ago, I dug out the old copy of the first book, reread it and was again absolutely delighted with it so, I've been on a hunt to find the other four. I've tracked down three so far. Anyone interested in a very unique culture (though some what based in Muslim nationalities) would do well to check these out. Powerful story telling and I felt the characters were very vivid and exciting.
Promise Unfulfilled.......2000-02-21
Ah, the late, unlamented Liavek series!
This was producedwhen the shared-world concept was really in vogue, when such series atThieves' World, Merovingen, and Wild Cards were flourishing. (The first two of these were brutally destroyed by the horrific contributions of Janet and Chris Morris, in my humble opinion, as they seized control of the plots and smashed them into repugnant dead ends.)Alas, Liavek never really caught the public's fancy. The setting was not distinct and unique enough, and most of the characters never really became compelling. One of the few that rose above the others was, in fact, essentially punished for his impudence, and in progressive stories seemed to literally get whittled down to size, losing a finger here, a hand there. Poor baron...
Also, a later plot line centers on the deadly fascination and influence of a suicide cult. The members have individually vowed to kill themselves as soon as they are rid of all ties and obligations. Few are ever able to achieve this goal. The mechanics of this concept are somewhat interesting, but the attraction and growing power of the cult never really made sense.
However, the magic system is very well worked out and is quite different from the usual run-of-the-mill "I got my spells out of this book" approach. Mages in this world have certain very real vulnerabilities, and these are keenly exploited by their enemies. These intrigues drive the more interesting stories.
Collectively, the books are something of a disappointment. They're good for a quick read on a slow afternoon, but on the whole they never really astonish.
Good fantasy--magic and adventure.......1999-10-25
The first of several different anthologies on the City of Liavek. "City of Luck on the Cat River, cosmopolitan hub of subtle intrigue and wild fortune, Liavek is the fantastic capital of art and adventure, caravans and culture, diplomacy...and dark magic. See trolls, green cats, blue chipmunks--and demon camels. Learn secrets of love and hidden fortune. Meet painted ladies, bejewelled assasins, Scarlet Priests, necromantic critics, a whip-wielding boutique owner--and wizards."

Oh Yeah, fast moving Sci Fi fun.......2007-10-04
Absolutely fast paced fun. I might read it again. The action sequences are well drawn and easy to visualize.
Hard-boiled space opera at its best.......2000-09-03
The McCade series of 1. "Galactic Bounty" (earlier published as "War world"), 2. "Imperial bounty", 3. Alien bounty", and 4. "McCade's bounty"; presents a completely new kind of science fiction character in Sam McCade. McCade is the bounty hunter within the terran empire that finds himself in the center of intergalactic politics and conflicts where his past military career in the terran fleet catches up with him. Hard-boiled and impossible to corrupt; McCade is facing adventures, together with his two odd friends Rico and Phil, that could be described as a unique mix of a wild west novel set in a military science fiction world with a flavor of Jack Vance and Robert Henlein. You will not be disappointed. Try also his other novels in the "legion" series.
Large Reward for GALACTIC BOUNTY.......2000-04-06
I have scoured many bookshelves and read much pulp, But I found a true treasure with this little gem. Dietz has created a larger than life life story that reads exceptionally well. It is very apparent that Dietz values the reader, and doesn't subject them to bunk. Pure Joy.
Captivating from the Start.......2000-03-10
I read this book when it was War World, and completely and utterly enjoyed it. Although, I've read well over 200 sci-fi books, Galactic Bounty (War World) has become and will remain one of my favorites. I highly recommend this book as well as the series. Long live McCade!
My all-time favorite.......2000-01-09
I first read this book thirteen years ago when it was originally published as "War World" and while I was still in grade school. I read it from cover to cover in one day (even using a flashlight hidden under a pillow to continue after bedtime). There has been no single author that has captured my imagination and paralyzed me with excitement as William C. Dietz. I highly recommend any of his novels, but this one holds a very dear place in my heart. I am so thankful to Ace Books for republishing this book and supporting such a magnificently gifted writer.

Yea, baby!.......2007-09-02
We made the Coffee Caramel Tostada Sundae's last night - oh my! I plan to make homemade tortillas this weekend. I have one child that LOVES mexican food, I got this for him and plan to try the quesadillas and salsas too. The pear-lime salsa sounds yummy.
Tortilla's galore.......2007-05-07
A great book with simple and quick recipies. No need to run out to the store for soft tortillas. Just whip them up and they are good to go.
Fantastic ideas!.......2006-09-28
This is a fantastic book with a wide range of new twists on everything from salsas to breakfast tacos. We bought this book when it first came out and loaned it out so many times that is was lost. We had enough of our favorites memozied that we did not repurchase until this week. Now I am finding a whole list of new ideas.
Great instructions on hand making your own corn tortillas, A+ salsa ideas. A must have book....
The Not So Well-Filled Tortilla.......2006-02-25
This is definitely a book that should be seen before bought. It required ingredients not always found in the typical home pantry. Additionally, while the title suggests Mexican food, it was almost totally Mexican and I think it would have broader appeal if it had some other types of fillings and more quesadilla recipes. (The latter is the reason I bought the book and found nearly no recipes for quesadillas.) The pictures were the high spot...excellently photographed.
It's all how you roll it........2006-01-26
THE WELL-FILLED TORTILLA
BY: Victoria Wise and Susanna Hoffman
The irrepressible tortilla: Crisp it, stuff it, roll it, dip it - ole!
They state early, "All recipes are written for 18-well-filled corn tortillas or 12 well-filled flour tortillas." Though flour tortillas bend and tuck better, your reviewer is far, far more in favor of the corn tortilla for its nutritional value.
The book opens with a section, The Larder, which explains all the ingredients called for in recipes here. They follow this with an Equipment section, none really needed, but some makes things come together more slickly. Next, they fill you in on terms in the recipes and the different ways a tortilla can be contorted, really easy.
Here's just a few of the offerings. All seem tasty, and none of the ingredient lists are very long:
* Green Olive Celantro Salsa (recipes for all salsas and sauces are found in the book). Made with garlic, Serrano chilies, olive oil and lemon zest
* Oear-Lime Salsa
With shallots, poblano chili pepper, like juice and anchiote powder.
* "Well-Filled Guacamole"
Simply made with tomatillos, lime and salt.
* Chili Colorado
Calls for chuck, port butt, garlic, chili powder, cumin, tomatoes pureed and a topping of whipping cream and dressed cilantro.
* Ground Lamb, Eggplant and Walnuts
Made with onion, chili peppers. Tomato paste, dry red wine and a topping of Red Bell Pepper-Tomatillo Salsa, lettuce and feta cheese
* Red or Green Chicken
Made with seasonings and onions, topped with Ancho Chili Sauce or Salsa Verde, shredded Cheddar and sour cream
* California-style Fish Chunks in a Dipped Tortilla
Make this with lemon, soy sauce chili peppers and Napa cabbage.
* Spicy Shrimp with Spinach
A quick recipe with olive oil, cider vinegar and Deviled Peanuts and Coconut Topping with lime wedges
* Avocado-Lime Cream
Made with whipping cream, sour cream, lime juice and Jalapeno chili pepper.
* Fried Tomatillos with Oinions and Cream
Make with shipping cream and a topping of Breaded Chili Strips and cilantro
* Salsa-Poached Eggs
Poach in Tomato Salsa or Salsa Verde, topped with shredded lettuce.
* Sweet Banana Tacos with Toasted Almonds
Requires butter, dark brown sugar, sour cream and confectioners' sugar.
Enjoy!
