Breathtaking!.......2007-03-20
I don't usually care for this type of book, full of the same beautiful young Caucasian men as one sees in Freshmen magazine. It gets so that I start to feel as if seeing one is seeing them all. However, I make an exception here. The colors are vibrant; the tenderness palpable; and, yes, one can almost feel that touching sensual and erotic intimacy. If only these exquisite photos were only the norm, what a beautiful world it would be!
Josh Elliot is a real sweethart........2006-12-02
Josh is the protagonist in this wonderfully sensual color photography book. Very engaging romps between him and his friends. This young man is pure heaven.

Customer Reviews:
a great book.......2003-01-28
A portrait of a child molestor from the inside out. The reviews refer to the "narrator" as an innocent of sorts. Maybe he qualifies as a naif, but only if you skirt the "other version," the one between the lines that hints cold-eyed at the reality. "Disturbing" isn't even the word... I really think this is a great book. I'm very curious why the author tackled the inner workings of the area of life. It must have been extraordinarily painful to write.
Disturbing.......2000-01-27
This was a really strange novel. Tracing the life and actions of a man named Louie Olsen in the early 1900s, it presents a disquietingly human view of a pedophile. Told from the point of view of the man himself, his delight in the beauty of both nature and children is believable, his actions almost understandable. He is not the big bad wolf we tend to picture when we think of child abusers; rather, he is a person loved by children and adults, defended by his community upon accusation. He is someone we might pass in the street and say good morning to. This, along with his childlike innocence and real, albeit perverted, love of the children, is what is truly frightening about the book. Occasionally slow in the writng, this is the kind of book that keeps you thinking long after you return it to the shelf.
Book Description
The War is over.
The demons have won.
Cibola, the citadel of Heaven, has fallen.
On Earth, life goes on. No one knows of the war, of the death, of the fire. No one knows that when you die all paths lead to the same eternity: one of torment, slavery, and eternal pain.
For Indigo, Dave, Gramm, Rico, and Hitomi, death is more dangerous than life. Afraid and naked, they awaken on a forgotten beacon. They set forth seeking answers, revealing a shattered landscape, one crawling with bloodthirsty demons, defeated angels, a Heaven that continues to burn, and a prophecy that offers only the barest sliver of hope.
Customer Reviews:
Pretty good, but not really for adults.......2007-01-05
The only problem with the book is that it is written at what I would consider the 7th to 9th grade level. It is a fantasy. You do not get tired or hungry. You heal quickly if hurt. There are armys of demons you can slay by waving your flashlight at them. I did not find anything stupid or in any way offensive but I was hoping for something with a little more zap - a touch of "Perdido Street Station" or "The Black Company", perhaps. If you are in the 8th grade and looking for a fantasy, this may be your book.
Take a chance on a small press fantasy gem........2006-10-21
Are book publishers following the example of movie studios? Do major publishers put out routine by-the-numbers fare, while small press publishers are free to take chances? If so, the difference is that unlike screenwriters, book authors have unlimited budgets for their storytelling. That's why an "indy" book like The Shivered Sky can be HUGE.
A group of people wake up in the afterlife and find themselves in the middle of a war between angels and demons. Wow. Good luck finding anything that outrageous on the shelves at Borders. Of course, you can't just be outrageous and write a good book. Thankfully, Dinniman keeps it grounded with some well-realized characters. No, were not talking about Dickens or Twain here, but believe me, the characters in this story are a level above many of the cardboard cut-outs that inhabit the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section of the bookstore.
So if you're considering entering the world of small-press genre books, I highly recommend starting here. No, it's not a masterpiece. I'm giving it 5 stars to attract people to it, but man, is it refreshing to read something DIFFERENT; an author who is willing to just go there, and let his imagination run wild.
By the way, for some of the older and/or more mature readers, don't let the cheesy cover discourage you from getting this book.
Dark and complex first novel-- three and a half stars........2006-10-09
An interesting debut novel from a writer who could be one to watch, if he continues to develop with the promise evident in this book. The Shivered Sky is a dark moody treatment of the heaven/hell concept which should make action fans very happy with its military flavor.
It suffers from some common first novel flaws: uneven pacing and occasionally overly complex plotting-- Dinniman is clearly in love with the material and loathe to leave anything out. With luck, this will even itself out in his later works.
If you are a fan of writers like Steven Erikson, then you may want to give The Shivered Sky a try. It is quite dark and often very violent, probably not suited for younger fantasy readers.
A few words from a common man..........2006-01-21
I am usually brief with my words, and this will be no different.
I picked up the book from the reviews on this site, as well as my own curiosity about the book. I have to say, it's more than what I expected. Matt has a very interesting concept on the whole heaven vs. hell debate and it makes a very good story.
I do find it somewhat curious that this book is labeled as Religious Fiction; I guess it is, but it definitely reads more like a great fantasy novel. The depiction of the hierarchy of angels and demons is fascinating, and also accurate to the classical catholic beliefs, well, other than their personal attitudes and wearing of space age armor...
If you enjoy reading books that challenge belief systems you gotta have this, even if you just like a great story of triumph of good vs. evil, Matt does a great job of portraying the grey area of good IN evil and evil IN good, some of those angels sure have bad attitudes. Also, some of those demons really just want peace.
Just buy the book, you'll dig it!
A sci-fi genre with depth.......2005-02-10
For one to enjoy this book, you must be a fan of the sci-fi/fantasy genre. This a fairly "heavy" sci fi novel which includes an appendix of different angel and demon groups. (A very helpful appendix, by the way) Unlike most "different worlds" novels, the characters in this book have real depth and evolve over time. One of major problems with the genre is the "cookie cutter" characters (i.e.) the "hero", the "villain", the "girl/damsel". The characters in this novel, who have soap opera type names for some reason, have separate personalities that relate to their experiences in the real world. Thus during the novel, I actually care about the characters. I wish more new sci-fi authors can follow this example of having some character development, instead of falling into the trap of non-stop, often pointless, action driven novels. The world that Dinniman creates is great fun. The hierarchy of angels creates conflicts amongst the angels, which makes them much more interesting than the usual do-gooder approach taken with most good versus evil novels.
It is also great fun for the human characters to learn that they have special powers in this world and learn how to develop them.
I hope his next work is as good as his first try at a full length novel.

Book Description
Wilks was a space marine with a near-fatal flaw: he had a heart. Billie was a child, the only survivor of a far-flung colony outpost. Thrown together in the last hellish night of an Alien invasion, Billie and Wilks helped each other get out alive. Thirteen years later, Wilks is in prison and Billie lives in a mental institution, the nightmare memories of the massacre at Rim seared into her mind. Now the pair get a chance to be reunited. To go back to that outpost where it all happened, to finally end the business between themselves . . . and the Aliens. This is the very first of the remastered Aliens trade paperbacks! Dark Horse is going back through each of its past Aliens graphic novels and revising images and text to bring the entire story into a single line of continuity with the motion pictures and the wildly popular Bantam novels. Once a black-and-white collection, this remastered edition boasts full-color art, an updated script, a new John Bolton cover, and a gallery of never-before-seen Mark A. Nelson art! Get ready for the remastered line!

Mark Verheiden is Mr. 'Aliens.'.......2005-01-31
What can I say; an absolute classic tour de force, Mark Verheiden is Mr. 'Aliens.' for those who are in the know this is the where it all begins; the first book in the excellent Aliens graphic novel series, and it's an absolute stormer! It hits on so many levels, not just the obvious sci - fi horror of killer bugs that are born by bursting out of your stomach and grow to the size of men but also the meaning - and nature of life - what it means to be human (is a clone a human?), our psychology, the origin of the aliens, their psychology and social organisation, mankind's place in the universe, the problems of our planet, and more. Verheiden goes deep into what the aliens stand for, what they mean, their implications for us, as well as the obligatory comparisons between man and alien. He shows us that he knows aliens more than the filmmakers did. If ever there was a case study of how to take a concept and run with it, then this is it. Verheiden sensibly cuts out Alien 3 continuity: the two characters who survived Aliens along with Ripley (the girl Newt and the soldier Hicks) but were pronounced dead at the beginning of Alien 3 are central characters in this book. The book's underlying premise is the downward tendency of human nature when confronted with challenges and problems beyond our ken and normal frame of reference. We see twisted people trying to use the alien menace for their own ends: depravity that includes twisted scientific experiments, bio-weaponry and focuses for cult worship, with the resultant excesses of human suffering and dying. Indeed, it is humanity's collective weaknesses and baser desires that let the monsters in; that let them get a foothold on the planet (hence the title 'outbreak'), that causes earth's infestation as the aliens' - despite not possessing 'intelligence' - exploit our human failings. All too late do we realise that the aliens are a cancer, a cancer that has infected our earth and made it unliveable. Thus the scattered remnants of humanity have to flee, for earth is lost. A quite superb plot that leaves you speechless. A gripping, complex and ultimately tragic sci-fi horror saga from the one and only Mark Verheiden, who saw the potential in the Aliens phenomena and went into creative overdrive, giving us a timeless science-fiction classic. Who cares about film sequels when the comics are this good?
Pretty Good Read, But..........2004-07-30
Editing the names is silly. The story of "Wilkes" and "Billie" isn't the story the creators originally told. Still, it's a decent read for a spin-off comic.
one of the best.......2002-07-01
This is one of the best Aliens graphic novels ever. In Outbreak, the government brings Wilks, (supposed to be Hicks) out of prison to lead an expedition to the Alien planet in order to secure a specimen. Wilks in the process decides to free Billie (newt) from the mental hospital she's in. In the midst of all this, various cults form around the worship of the alien, conspiracies are abound, and there is fierce competition of who will get the Alien specimen to Earth first. The story is extremely well crafted, it has great plot surprises everywhere and in the conclusion it actually teaches us something about human nature. The art wasn't the best, but it was good nevertheless for such a lengthy comic. Well done dialogue, well crafted characters and a great story make this a must buy for every alien fan.
a very good comic with interesting characters........1999-01-01
Out of all the aliens comics and books i have read this is the best.It tells about the new sightings of xenomorphs and also about Hicks and newt 13 years after the second movie. There names are changed though because of complications around the third movie. it has more plot and less aliens which is actually better. the aliens are hardly even seen until the end. the very end of the comic is amazing. it's really nice how it revolves around many different characters who are all important to the plot but mainly don't interact with eachother. it's a great opening to the aliens series and completly surpasses the movies. choose this comic above all.

New American Heart Association Cookbook.......2007-09-15
The New American Heart Association cookbook 7th addition is great, after my husband suffered a heart attack I knew we had to change the way we looked at food, all the meals are tasty and well planned. It gives you tools to change the way you cook and eat for a healthy lifestyle.
Yummy.......2007-08-09
I really like this cookbook. It is SO well organized! There's a table of contents, and index, and the section breaks are clearly delineated so you can turn to them easily and quickly. This isn't rocket science, but it's something the authors of many other cookbooks can't seem to wrap their brains around.
So far I've made a handful of the recipes. They aren't gourmet; they are basic family fare. I've liked everything that I've made from here. The warm orzo salad with black beans and ham, and the portobello and sirloin strips over spinach noodles were particularly well-received.
Yum.......2007-07-30
7th Edition, New American Heart Association Cookbook is quickly becoming one of my favorite cookbooks. Nice sauces, delicious recipes from appetizers through entees to desserts.
I'll be giving this book as a gift to others.
Great Cookbook.......2007-05-28
Lots of great recipes and not a lot of ingredients that you need to make a special trip to the grocery store for.
I'd rather die than use this book.......2007-05-25
I'd rather die of a heart attack than cook from this book! I bought it for my husband because he has high colesterol, but every recipe we tried was lacking in flavor. The Southwestern Ratatouille was bland, and other recipes didn't fare any better. The recipe titles are tantalizing, but fail to deliver flavor.

So sad..........2007-10-08
I think this book was a waste of money... I looked through the recepies and there is nothing that I would be tempted to make... The recepies dont have a single name that I recognized. Its so disappointing.
A good pick.......2007-05-24
I have only made one recipe from this book so far but it was delicious, simple and quick.
One of the best AHA cookbooks.......2007-04-06
I also have the Low Cholesterol/Low Fat cookbook, which I like, but the recipes tend to be a little complicated and take a while to prepare and cook. This book still has low cholesterol and low fat recipes, but they are much easier to make. It also contains many more recipes than the other cookbook, including a lot of pasta dishes, which I thought were lacking in the other book.
Quick and Easy.......2007-03-11
This little cook book offers recipes that are easy and quick to make with staples usually in my cupboard. We are two seniors and I'm always trying to make palatable, heartfriendly meals.
Good.......2007-01-09
There are some recipes I would make in this but also alot that don't look good.

Not Bad, Could Be Better.......2000-02-11
I wonder of the AHA's use of margarine in this book is influenced by its selling of endorsements to certain manufacturers. It's a mystery why so many recipes would require the use of "acceptable margarine" to saute ingredients, when using a little fat-free broth would accomplish the same thing. Still, there are a lot of excellent recipies in this book, making it worthwhile.
