If them's his lordship's orders, mem, another voice answered, they'll have to be kep', I suppose. But, if you'll excuse the liberty, mem, as it's between ourselves, servant or no servant, all I have to say is, it's a cruel thing,--parting that poor, pretty, young widdered cre'tur' from her own flesh and blood, and him such a little beauty and a nobleman born.

Cheap print job.......2007-07-09
This is an example of the difficulties of shopping online.
I had read the book several years ago and wanted to give a volume as a gift. This printing is unacceptable - unpleasant font, cramped pages and flimsy binding. You will do better with the purchase of a used hardcover volume
A Gentle Story.......2007-06-05
I have always loved "A Little Princess" and "The Secret Garden," but I had not even heard of this book until recently. It is the simple and gentle story of how a little boy's innocence and belief that everyone is good transforms his miserly and cruel grandfather into an admirable man. If you enjoy Burnett's other stories, this one is not to be missed.
Right up there with "A Little Princess" and "The Secret Garden".......2007-03-21
When I was little, two of my favorite books were A Little Princess and The Secret Garden (HarperClassics) by Frances Hodgson Burnett. When I grew up, they were still favorites. So a year ago when I was buying them for my little cousin, and I noticed "Little Lord Fauntleroy", I was astounded. How did I miss such a gem?
The story of little Cedric who warms his old grandfather's heart is beautifully written and quite touching. There is also a lesson to be learned, as we watch what Cedric does with his newfound wealth. What would you do if you were suddenly gifted with such a fortune? This story is perfect for anyone who enjoyed "A Little Princess" or "The Secret Garden"!
A Little Disappointment.......2006-05-19
I wanted this for a long time, and finally received it yesterday from my Amazon Wishlist.
This is the first audio book that I actually find difficult to listen to. The sound quality of this CD is so poor and scratchy that I could be listening to an old radio broadcast. I do not feel as if I am sitting in a room listening to a wonderful story unfold...it's more like I'm listening to a conversation on a cell phone. It actually hurts my ears to listen to this recording.
Every time the reader says any word with the letter "s" the hiss goes right to your brain. I'm not kidding. I still have a headache.
A boy who changed his grandfather.......2005-10-14
I got to know this book "Little Lord Fauntleroy" through the President of SGI, Daisaku Ikeda. This book tells us how a pure, innocent and kind-hearted boy, Ceddie, changed his ill-tempered grandfather. Little Ceddie's mother played a very important role in bringing up his son into such a good character, who always look at people's good points. This good quality of Little Ceddie is what a society need.

1930. The Woman and The Puppet begins: The Carnival in Spain does not end at 8 o'clock in the morning on Ash-Wednesday, as it does in other countries. The stern call of penance of the Church memento quia pulvis es (remember that thou art dust) does not influence the riotous gayety of Sevilla for more than four days, and on the first Sunday in Lent, the Carnival is revived with renewed vigor. Call it 3.5 stars - Team 7 vs. the Apocalypse.......2006-08-12
Despite a somewhat rough start, Deathblow ended up becoming one of the better early Image Comics titles, thanks in large part to the issues collected in this volume.
Deathblow: Sinners & Saints collects issues 1-12 of the ongoing Deathblow series, which focused on Michael Cray, aka Deathblow, a black ops warrior with a bloody past, a guilty conscience, and a disease that leaves him with very little time left to live. This series was obviously born of superstar artist Jim Lee's joint fascination with Richard Marcinko novels and Frank Miller's groundbreaking Sin City work. The first couple of issues, which were drawn by Lee, featured an abundance of military jargon and artwork that was extremely similar to the black and white style found in Sin City. They basically established Cray as a warrior without peer in a military unit known for doing the government's dirty work.
How that turned into a series about the Antichrist and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is anybody's guess.
The story took a radical turn in issue 3, in which the Black Angel (who for some reason looks a lot like Trent Reznor) was released from Purgatory, where he was imprisoned by the holy Order of the Cross. Seriously, the story became ½ black ops and ½ supernatural horror. Weird, but writer Brandon Choi makes it work. Cray is forced to reconcile the events in his past and lead the fight against the Black Angel and his Horsemen. In a nice turn of events, Cray's former Team 7 mates reunite to lend a hand. The Team 7 back story is really what ties the Wildstorm Universe together, so seeing them together again, particularly in such a spectacular fashion, is a real treat.
The artwork from issue 3 forward was provided by former Grendel artist Tim Sale. He would later become a major name in the industry with his work on Batman: the Long Halloween and several other projects with writer Jeph Loeb, but this was where he made his mainstream debut. He obviously started out with the same Miller worship that Lee brought to the series, but established his own unique style soon enough.
Overall, this was a good series and makes a nice trade paperback. Looking back a decade later it's easy to see the flaws in a lot of these Image books, but I think Deathblow holds up pretty well. My only complaint about this volume is that it did not include the Deathblow preview story that ran in the Darker Image one-shot. Not only did it feature Jim Lee artwork, but it was also the character's first appearance, and should have been included here.
The Sin City Legacy.......2000-09-04
I admit having found this hard to come-by but was pleased to eventually recieve it because Sinners and Saints is a dark comic in unique style both artistic and story based. the stark black and white images with limited use of colour provides a nice alternative to the over-coloured world other titles may portray. The story is interesting and seedy and reminds me of frank millers Sin City books it is an overall good title and worth the investment though perhaps not if you live in the UK
Jim Lee sins........2000-04-12
Deathblow was one of the best of the early Wildstorm creations. The character has a depth and intensity seldom found in Image comics. This volume collects the first twelve issues of Deathblow, in which a regretful killer must try to save his soul while dealing with armageddon. Though the story stretches on a bit long, it's worth it. The first two parts feature incredible Sin City-inspired art by Jim Lee. The rest is by Tim Sale, now known for his work on Batman: The Long Halloween. This collection is well worth the investment.

Customer Reviews:
What a joy this book is........2007-05-26
This book was given to me as a gift. It is such a joy. I've now purchased numerous copies myself to give as gifts also. We all need to learn the lessons written in this beautiful little book of taking time to enjoy life, whether it be with tea or even coffee.
Time for Tea.......2006-05-06
I own a copy of this given to me by a friend who loves to drop by and share a cup of tea. I purchased a copy for my cousing for her birthday, also. The illustrations are wonderful and the lines of prose about tea and time spent with our friends make this the perfect little book to enjoy if you are having a quiet cup of tea alone.
If Teacups Could Talk.......2006-02-01
This is a book mothers should give to their daughters. I regret all the years of my daughters' childhoods that I did not use the good china and teapots. We did share over a cup of tea but how much nicer to have used the teacups instead of the everyday mugs. I will definitely be having more teas with my granddaughters and using the recipes in this book.
If Teacups Could Talk.......2005-10-06
This quick read is one for a woman to linger over. Wonderful thoughts and suggestions for "special times". Helps to establish tradions and customs for family and friends.
This book is my absolute favorite! It inspires & delights me.......2005-01-16
I have been collecting books about tea time for a number of years. This book is my favorite of all of them. The illustrations are gorgeous, the entire book is a visual joy. It inspires us to put some ritual into our lives, to slow down, take time, enjoy beauty & calm, serenity, and one another. Another book that inspires in the same way is by Alexandra Stoddard, Living a Beautiful Life. Emilie Barnes encourages us to put the tea kettle on the stove to boil the water, which gives time to set a lovely tray, cut a fresh flower, do the things that delight the senses. The same goes for making fresh scones - there is time to do so while waiting for a friend to drive over. I love her idea of collecting a variety of tea cups & saucers, displaying them, and inviting guests to look over them all and select the one that delights them to use while enjoying the tea. The narrative simply adds to the pleasure of the book. There is something for everyone & all ages, for one or a crowd. If you can only get one book about tea, this is the one!

Customer Reviews:
Very Disappointed in the Lack of Content.......2007-07-25
I was very disappointed in the lack of any substantial material which would give tips on how to plan a tea party. Especially lacking were the recipes that were referenced -- only one recipe for each event was printed. How are you supposed to plan a party when you don't have all of the recipes??
Considering the author has all of the experience outlined in her reviews, she does not share much with the reader that you could not find in any other book about tea. I don't believe this is a credible resource for planning a tea event.
Perfectly Charming.......2006-07-31
This book would be a lovely addition to any tea lover's bookshelf. I heartily recommend it for the charm and great information contained therein.
Awful.......2006-03-14
I don't recommend this book at all....It was a complete waste of money, No information a regular person wanting to put on a little teaparty or have tea-friends over could use.
A Wonderful Book.......2002-10-31
TEA WITH FRIENDS is a terrific resource for those who need specific ideas for year round tea parties. Each chapter suggests one theme party for each month of the year. Within each chapter is background information on the theme, a section entitled "Setting The Scene" in which the author gives suggestions on what service and accessories you could use, as well as ideas for centerpieces and music. She also includes a menu, a featured recipe and a craft project or activity relating to the theme, My favorite is November's Victorian Afternoon Tea. Knight gives insightful background information on how tea became a British obsession during the reign of Queen Alexandria Victoria and the causes behind rise in the popularity of black tea, (one of the menu offerings she suggests). In essence, she not only makes menu suggestions, but she provides the background you need to understand why she is making these suggestions. She also includes an example of what an invitation for your November tea might look like. In "Setting The Scene" she lists excellent suggestions for accenting the table with Victorian charm, as well as detailed instructions on how to make a Victorian centerpiece. There are also music suggestions that would be appropriate for this setting. Knight also includes a full menu with a featured recipe for Watercress and Stilton sandwiches. Finally she incorporates detailed instructions on how to make lavender sachets. Sidebars tell about various traditions of the Victorian royal family. In just a few short pages, you have the background, recipes, serving ideas and special touches for a monthly theme tea party anytime of year.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves tea and is looking for simple, creative ways to share the pleasures of tea time with friends.
Cris Cunningham
More than just another book about tea...........2002-03-02
Amazingly, Elizabeth Knight's book achieves the Herculean task of providing a primer for beginners as well as delighting the avid and informed hostess with creative and polished tea themes. The menus serve as both a journey and a destination; have a look and enjoy both!
The art, coupled with the quotations and introductory material make this a delightful book just to leaf through, but the ideas and the warmth of them sing, "It's time for a cup of tea with friends."
The initial chapter, "Taking Tea," launches the novice but serves the informed as a succinct reference. Keep this volume in an easily accessible place!
Book Description
The second book in the Sandy’s Tea Society series is here!
When Friends Gather for Tea centers around the “Tea Society”—sentimental Claudette, country girl Suzette, playful Gloria, literary Laura, artistic Ruby, and romantic Lillian— who believe “a work of the heart is always a work of art.” With this in mind, the ladies host unique tea parties that comfort and bless friends and neighbors, including...
- a “welcome new neighbors” party with a garden theme
- a “heart of a mother” party with a baby doll theme
- a “wishing you blue skies” party with a sunny day theme
Sandy’s charming, full–color artwork, inspirational stories, and mouthwatering recipes encourage women to reach out to others in a delightful atmosphere of friendship.

Gentle and lovely thoughts to accompany Tea or Life........1999-10-29
Gentle and lovely thoughts to accompany "Tea" or "Life". Romantic and feminine. A friend gave one to me and I count it as a sweet rememberance.
Beautiful illustrations, but not enough quotations on tea........1999-06-29
I was a little diappointed with this book since it only had 20 pages with references to tea. Most of the book was quotations on friendship. The title of the book is a bit misleading since the subcaption is "Making Memories with Friends". All in all a very cute book, but not one to get if you are expecting information on tea.
This was not what I expected!.......1999-06-07
I was very dissappointed! I never expected such a tiny book. I was expecting an interactive, idea type book to have at a luncheon. Afernoon Tea has sweet passages and would make an excellant stocking stuffer!
This was not at all what I expected........1999-06-07
The passages were nice. However, I never expected such a tiny book. I was expecting something along the lines of interactive book. This is simply a tiny book with sweet passages in it. This would make an excellant stocking stuffer!
