"One of Kinsey's most electryfing adventures to date...Another irresistible installment of Ms. Grafton's series."
THE BALTIMORE SUN

Customer Reviews:
Yes, this is one of the better books in this series.......2007-03-03
It is true that Ms. Grafton writes very well and that Kinsey is, in general, an interesting and very likeable character. My problem with many of the books in this series is that Kinsey performs so poorly whenever someone decides that she has lived long enough - perhaps even a little too long! A prime example of this is "G is for Gumshoe," when Kinsey should not have survived to the mid-point of the book.
In this installment, Kinsey actually acquits herself fairly well when it becomes obvious that someone has decided that she needs to be eliminated. She should have taken even more precautions than she did, but at least she took some. I suppose that if Kinsey acted completely sensible in these situations, we would not get the "shoot-m-up" endings that Ms. Grafton likes to give us.
It is the "bad guy/gal" in this book whose actions do not make any sense to me. After effectively luring Kinsey into the trap that has been set for her, the killer (who Kinsey is on the verge of identifying) inexplicably takes no action for several minutes, thus allowing Kinsey to live to tell us about "J is for Judgment." I just do not understand why authors do this when it would be so simple to alter the story slightly to avoid such glaring errors in the storyline. On the other hand, I seem to be one of the few people who are bothered by such matters.
Overall, I agree with the other reviewers that this is one of Ms. Grafton's better efforts.
Another great who-dunnit.......2006-06-15
Sue Grafton has to be the most reliable mystery writer out there. Even a sub-par offering from her is leaps and bounds better than the best of other mystery series out there. Part of what is great about her is the way she shakes everything up just a bit in each book so that you never feel like you're reading the same thing twice. Case in point: in this installment we find our beloved Kinsey Millhone rebounding from being fired by the California Fidelity Insurance company that had been her base of operations in the previous novels. Humbled by the experience of being canned, Kinsey is trying to make ends meet working out of a law office. When her new boss' PI dies suddenly he asks for her help tying up the loose ends of a case that is coming to trial in three weeks. Working under a time crunch and eager to get back on top of her life again, Kinsey attacks the job with renewed vigor and her usual gutsy style. Grafton also showcases her adept plotting skills with perhaps the most intricately plotted installment yet. Kinsey's case takes on many thrilling twists and turns that are honest-to-goodness surprises to the reader -- and predicting who the culprit is becomes virtually impossible, making for a fun ride. It had been a while since I last visited Santa Teresa with Kinsey's last adventure, "H is for Homicide", but with "I is for Innocence" Grafton has ensured that this loyal fan will not stray so far again.
Kinsey is Anything But Innocent!.......2005-04-27
As Sue Grafton continues her alphabet series, we've seen many changes in the main character, Kinsey Millhone. If you've been with Grafton since A IS FOR ALIBI like I have, you'll notice a more subdued Kinsey in this book. Since Kinsey no longer works for California Fidelity doing all of their investigative work, and her future is uncertain, her usual "edge" seems to have been dulled. This is a disappointment - I enjoy the feisty Kinsey!
Sue Grafton introduces a new support cast to liven things up a bit as her detective series continues along its journey. Kinsey is hired to take over a seemingly boring case when a local private investigator dies of a heart attack and she must find the facts quickly before the statute of limitations runs out! She stumbles into a "whodunit" involving a dead artist, a husband tried and acquitted, and an ex-husband screaming "foul". It's up to Kinsey to figure it all out in the few weeks allowed by the court, and in the process to keep herself safe. This proves to be easier said than done in the writing style that we've come to enjoy and expect from Sue Grafton.
One of the things that I enjoy about Grafton is that she not only tells a great story, but at the same time she lays the foundation for future books. After becoming familiar with her writing style, you'll start to pick up on the tidbits of information that she brings out in the open only to read about those same facts in more detail in a future episode. It's almost as if her alphabet series is one very long novel with each letter of the alphabet being a chapter instead of a separate book - these read almost like Kinsey Millhone's diary. But then again, I can see why she's done it this way -- who would buy a book of 8,000 pages or so? It would be a little difficult to carry it to the beach, park or on an airplane!
Grafton has created yet another fantastic masterpiece with this tale. She's definitely on a hot streak with this book and it keeps you on the edge of your seat with a few twists along the way until the end!
Great as a book on tape........2005-02-02
If you have not heard Grafton's alphabet mysteries as a book on tape, do yourself a favor and get hold of one and enjoy! Judith Kaye IS the voice of Kinsey Millhone. She has the attitude and the wit down perfectly.
Of course, a great performance with a lousy story still makes a lousy story. Fortunately, this is a great story. The mystery is interesting and puzzling. Kinsey misses some obvious clues but, even though I had them way before she did, I still couldn't figure it out! A pleasure.
Kinsey Always Finds the Right Answers!.......2003-11-10
In this Kinsey Millhone mystery, Kinsey solves yet another puzzle. This time she has to tie up the loose ends of a murder investigation. Is David Barney REALLY guilty? Or did someone else really kill Isabella? Kinsey takes every shred of evidence that there possibly is to solve this strange puzzle. David seems innocent enough, and there seems to be other suspects involved. But as Grafton ties up the story, the answer will surprise you!
A great book, and one of Grafton's very best!

Customer Reviews:
I got stuck with "Gumshoe".......2007-10-11
"G is for Gumshoe" was my first Kinsey Millhone novel. I will tell you that I went back and read everything leading up to "G" before "H" came out. I have been an avid Sue Grafton fan since the beginning. She makes Kinsey so fun and fallible. You just have to love her and her stories. I especially love Henry.
Gotta Read!!.......2007-07-07
I love all the alphabet books, but even better was having three in one!
I am currently reading K is for Killer, each one gets better and better!
Wonderful, I love Kinsey.......2007-06-14
I have read almost all of Grafton's books, I still have a few that I have missed, she is ingenious, every single novel is original. The reading is easy, I can devour a book in one to two days, and then I am looking around for another. I have just finished J,K,L,M, am working on N, and am now looking for the ones in between that I have missed.
Dorothy Harper, Northridge, CA
I loved them all.......2007-06-03
I've read the whole series and can't wait for the next one to come out.
"G" is for Gumshoe.......2007-05-14
This novel by Sue Grafton is very light hearted and fun to read. Reading a novel about Kinsey Millhone is addictive! I can't put it down.

Book Description
Here together for the first time on CD, Santa Teresa P.I. Kinsey Millhone is still on the case…
"G" Is for Gumshoe
Kinsey Millhone’s thirty-third birthday brings about final renovations to her apartment, a new case, and the top slot on Tyrone Patty’s hit list. Obviously, it would turn out to be a birthday to remember.
"H" Is for Homicide
To the cops, the death of claims adjuster Parnell Perkins looked like a robbery gone sour; to Kinsey Millhone, it looks strangely suspicious. As the evidence leads Kinsey to insurance scammer Bibianna Diaz, she must race to get to her before Bibianna’s spurned and violent suitor Raymond Maldonado does.
"I" Is for Innocent
Kenneth Voight thought that justice had not been served when David Barney was acquitted in the shooting death of Voight’s ex-wife, Isabelle. Five years later, Voight is the plaintiff in a civil suit in which Barney stands accused of Isabelle’s wrongful death. When Voight hires Kinsey to gather the necessary damning evidence, a simple civil case becomes a deadly hunt for someone who once got away with murder–and may again.

For those with long drives to and from work.......2007-05-15
I drive 35-45 minutes each way to work. The news is too depressing. I found these mysteries to be an enjoyable diversion. Not too deep, but good mysteries. Following a single character through three mysteries makes her a friend on my otherwise lonely drives. I have now gone through 9 such mysteries. Enjoy!

GOOD START !!!!!.......2006-02-14
This graphic novel collecting the first three issues of the punisher war journal, the iconic vigilante comic book series from marvel, is great! Not only do you get good story telling from carl potts but you also get too see comic book superstar artist Jim Lee draw his first book!!!
All that aside its a cracking read with the first chapter being best of the three! The punishers origin has been showen countless times in his various books, but this still has to be matched (even nowdays storys!) for the original way its told....
Seak this book out if your already a pun fan but also if your a jim lee fan as it is an early show case for his work.
Set in the late eightys newer fans may have missed this tale. And dont worry pun man fans, it has enough of the punisher doing what he does best to keep the most blood hungry fan happy......

Customer Reviews:
Poetic and violent cyberpunk........2000-06-30
The sub-genre of cyberpunk has a subtextual critique ofadvanced Capitalism. It is usually set in dystopian future, full ofcorporate monopolies, laissez-faire economics and huge gulfs between rich and poor. For all that, most of the novels in this genre concern the disaffected middle-class. Stephenson's Snow Crash, for all its unique characters not often seen in science fiction (a black-asian hero and a young teenaged girl) were well enough connected in their world to be aware of and stop a massive conspiracy. And Gibson's classic Neuromancer added glamour and menace to the mostly white male world of computer hacking.
Misha's novel, first published in 1990, takes on a cyberpunk environment from the viewpoint the disenfranchised, eschewing the high-tech gadgetry usually a part of the genre.
It's set in Dek Tek, a crime-ridden diseased suburb of the posh and exclusive city Mickey-San. Deadly gases permeate the air, forcing the residents to don masks. Brutal gangs of teenagers from Mickey-san, called the Pinks, prowl the streets of Ded Tek, looking for victims to bash or rape. Renegade groups of Zombies, practitioners of a Santeria hybrid religion also hunt for people for their ritual cannibalism. The novel follows a group of artists who try to eke out a living in this toxic environment. The main character is the tough-as-nails holographic artist Kumo. She is devoted to the purity of her art to a fault. She makes unfortunate enemies with Dori and Motler, who intend to sell-out and become corporate artists for Mickey-san. Her friends are the mostly spineless Jujube and the hermaphroditic David, who don't want to sell out, but spend most of their time avoiding both the cops and the criminals; in short, they are tied up in the business of survival. Finally, there is Tommy, a Warhol-like figure who plays on both sides of the coin-he's both an underground artist and a beloved icon of Mickey-san. He's even gained god status among a fascistic Christian sect. Looming over them all is a new horrifying development: a mysterious serial killer is eviscerating all of the artists in Dek Tek, one by one.
Misha's writing is rich and parodic. Her action sequences are highly visual and move swiftly. A particularly wonderful scene involves a description of the candyland-like corporate Mickey-san, where control underlies the soulless beauty of the city. She alternates a strong, straightforward prose style with stream-of-conscious poetic sections that are in the point of view of the artist-killer.
"She is dancing, a beautiful orchid in ballet pink, her frills gray with grime, droplets of dew run down her face, the missing track lights leave her elegant dance for lonely shadows...I am wrapping her white neck with the throat of a dying swan, and she is still, waiting to dance, to dance again as I am lifting her, her leap of silence into clouds from years of molting feathers from a broken lawn flamingo once again a silent pink swan."
The writing is a wonderful mix of fragility and violence, kind of a cross between Janet Frame and William S. Burroughs. The density of the writing, and Misha's interior monologues can be confusing. The characters frequently speak in untranslated Japanese and there are unexplained terms. But Red Spider, White Web is none the less, a compelling read. The novel's theme-about integrity in the face of harsh situations-comes through.
Customer Reviews:
Good only if you don't own "The New Best Recipe" by Cooks Illustrated.......2006-06-23
A passionate home cook that has been honing her cooking skills for the last 25 years, concentrating on Italian cooking for the last 10 years, writes this review. My favorite cookbooks are "The Professional Chef" by the Culinary Institute and "Culinary Artistry". With more than 500 cookbooks in my collection I am usually disappointed in my recent cookbook acquisitions. If you do not own "The New Best Recipes" by the same editor you will like this book, if you do, read on.
The book is outlined as follows:
1. Appetizers
2. Salads
3. Vegetables Sides and Casseroles
4. Potato Sides and Casseroles
5. Rice, Grain and Bean Sides and Casseroles
The "Side Dishes" by the editors of Cooks Illustrated Magazine is a nice book provided that you do not own either "Italian Classics" or "Best Recipes" by the same editors. If you own either of these two books (as I do) you will find that this book contains many of the same recipes. The books are not entirely duplicative, but at least 50% of all the recipes are in either and sometimes both of the other two books.
In the first chapter on Appetizers even the order of the recipes is the same as "The New Best Recipe" book. I stopped looking after the first five recipes were the same, and in the same order.
Many of the recipes in this book have a strong Italian influence. Most of these recipes are Italian classics. The recipes themselves are very good, and authentically Italian when appropriate. There are also some Mexican and French recipes included as well.
If you don't own either "Italian Classics" or "Best Recipes" this is a nice book. The recipes are strong and the dishes routinely turn out well. This book is written in the usual Cooks Illustrated Style. The writers tell you what they tried that did and did not work followed by the recipe. If you don't plan to purchase "The New Best Recipe" by the editors of Cooks Illustrated I recommend this book. However, I would suggest that you purchase "Best Recipe" instead since it covers many more recipes including most if not all of these.
